Baley Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 We used to play something similar during winters in school when we were younger. We used the biggest plastic bottle we could find. The rules were simplified,we only playe it on snow since our school was built on cement. It was really fun. We jumped on eachother's back and things like that. Anyway,to be honest I don't really care for either sport.
Cantousent Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Yeah, there would be some serious rioting if European football took breaks for commercials like American football does. To be honest, I prefer to play European football but I prefer to watch American football. Well, I don't really like to watch anything while playing sports in general is fun. Ahh, defense. Dishing out punishment to the other guy. As for the original topic, I agree with the view that it depends on other sources of entertainment in a city. If there's more competition for entertainment, then it makes sense that game attendance will suffer. If you live somewhere where the best entertainment to be found is the college football game, then the football game will have greater attendance. As time progresses, it makes sense that folks will become increasingly entrenched in their attitudes towards the sport, helping to solidify the significance of sporting events. At least that's how I see it from an outside perspective. Lucius Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 To be honest, England would go up in flames Eldar. I'm sure of it. :D As for myself, I think American Football would be much more enjoyable to watch if it didn't have all those breaks. DENMARK! It appears that I have not yet found a sig to replace the one about me not being banned... interesting.
Laozi Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 PS:American Football is for wussies, real men play Rugby! [/size] <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Uh-huh, cause theres alot of 6'7" 340lbs. giants throwing people around in rugby. People from across the pond always seem to think that rugby is something big because they don't wear pads. In american Football if they did that, a couple people would die every game. I'm sorry but rugby players much< american football. People laugh when I say that I think a jellyfish is one of the most beautiful things in the world. What they don't understand is, I mean a jellyfish with long, blond hair.
Guest Fishboot Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Also, they (Tears for Fears) are not my favorite band. I like perhaps three or four of their songs. Those lyrics simply have personal meaning for me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You misunderstand the origin and purpose of the "Your favorite band sucks." statement. I have no idea what your favorite band is now nor did I at the time of saying YFBS - the point of the statement was merely to assault your own idiosyncratic tastes with a cypher. I said it to satirize the internet cliche of attacking another person's tastes to elevate one's own. In retrospect it might have been more obviously satirical if I'd said, "Your favorite color sucks." And to give credit where credit is due, it's originally from The Onion. In my opinion, defending one's tastes against "YFBS"-type internet attacks is dumb, although sometimes I can't help but do it too.
EnderAndrew Posted September 2, 2005 Author Posted September 2, 2005 If you attend a game that isn't televised, it doesn't have all those breaks. During televised games, a TV guy steps on the field to stop the action. The players and refs can't do anything until he steps off the field to signal that the commercial break is over. I hate it. But I don't think that makes the sport less valid as a sport.

I agree your favorite color sucks would have been more obvious, especially seeing as my sig is song lyrics. Usually, I would not have defended against such an attack, but as I said, the words have personal significance. And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had
