How do I increase the general size of my "swap" file set up for games? I have 768 MB of general ram and 64 Video Ram. I like to cypher off some of that RAM to be dedicated to video memory on my laptop.

Assuming your computer allows you to change the ammount (that is a motheboard setting for shared memory that varies), you need to get into BIOS. Restart your PC and generally you have to press F2 or DEL to enter Setup/BIOS. Then just look for the option.

Why do you want a generic one? Do you mean one that isn't a specific nVidia or ATi ?

That is what Generic means.

But why? Don't you have a video card that is nVidia or ATi ?

Look on the bottom of your notebook. It should have a model number.

 

Then go to IBM's website, and find the drivers for your model. They should have specifically the video drivers you need. They should also tell you what onboard video card you have (like a SiS Integrated Video Model XXX). And if you don't trust that IBM has the latest driver there, you can atleast now look for the proper driver elsewhere.

What model Thinkpad? I've got a T41p, and it has an ATi Mobility Radeon T2 128MB.

Failing that, Ender's advice is sound: IBM have a very good update service now, it has improved out of sight since I bought this model, and it was as good as M$ before.

Err... yes. And if it is one of those piece of sh1t integrated video arrays, as they used to put in older models, chances are you'll be screwed as far as compatibility goes. I had a Thinkpad (more like Stupidpad) too, and it was unable to run anything DirectX-based.

I wasn't going to be that blunt, but yeah, if it isn't an nVidia or ATi, then chances are it won't run KotOR ... after all, it's a DirectX9.0b game!
