When does the handmaiden join your party?

Hi, I just started my 3rd game and both games the handmaiden wasn't in my party. So how does she join your party then, just asking?

Your main character has to be a guy.

yeah, she will join up after you finish telos, but the key thing is, she only joins if your playing a male character. If you're playing a female, you get disciple (I haven't got him yet, I'm busy playing a male character) You don't even ASK her to come with you, so don't go looking for that option when you do talk to her.
