No matter what geek toy you buy, it's already outdated.

...well, me P3 533MHz wit' 256MB RAM lasted me jus' a wink or two short o' 5 years now (an' I's fried pretty much e'erythin' on the ol' girl at least twice an' ne'er had ta make but two semi-significant patchwork jobs ta git her ship-shape), so "outdated" ain't a big problem fer me, long as she still purrs at the end o' the day...which be why I's makin' the big overhaul ta a shiny new tricked-out ride now; cuz whate'er I gits, she's gonna 'ave ta last me a couple years, at least...spend more now while I gots the cash, spend less later, when I prolly won't (upcomin' Weddin' an' all that, ya know)...

...WHO LUVS YA, BABY!!...

A long, long time ago, but I can still remember,
How the Trolling used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance, I could egg on a few Trolls to "dance",
And maybe we'd be happy for a while.
But then Krackhead left and so did Klown;
Volo and Turnip were banned, Mystake got run out o' town.
Bad news on the Front Page,
BIOweenia said goodbye in a heated rage.
I can't remember if I cried
When I heard that TORN was recently fried,
But sadness touched me deep inside,
The day...Black Isle died.

For tarna, Visc, an' the rest o' the ol' Islanders that fell along the way

Even before then, MS had methods in DOS to load files into high memory, and eventually memory managers for RAM above 1 meg.

MS is still a horrid company though.

And my info in regards to the AGP bandwidth comes from someone who helps make microprocessors. I admit it's second hand information, but I largely trust the source.

You are right about the agp bandwidth but the Athlon 64 is built off the Opteron chip; a server chip; so it was natural to bring the PCIX bus with it to the home user.

So far every thing else mentioned is legacy issues, you must remember the reason apple opened it's own business was because IBM thought there would be no market for home use. In other words there is a lot of short sightedness in both the producer and the consumer. If you don't believe me look up the thread on wether NWN 2 should be put out on CD and see what some people think of upgrading.
