sickboycp Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 Has anyone else been totally blown away by The Postal Service's debut album, Give Up? Electronic beats, yearning haunting vocals, somehow both desolate and hopeful at the same time. And don't get me started on their cover of Phil Collins's "Against All Odds." This is, IMO, the best album released so far in the new century.
Leferd Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 Have you checked out Death Cab For Cutie? The PS is mostly a side project of Death Cab's Ben Gibbard and Dntel's Jimmy Tamborrello. Great stuff. I especially like the male/female duets. "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle
Aaron Contreras Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 I enjoyed DNTEL 'Life is Full of Possibilities' more. Same duo. I can't stand Ben Gibbard, though.
sickboycp Posted October 6, 2004 Author Posted October 6, 2004 My gf is a huge DCFC fan, so I decided to pick up The Postal Service for her on her birthday. Of course, I've probably listened to it about 100 times more than she has. Somehow, Ben Gibbard's work with DCFC was always a little 'we're too hip for the mainstream' for my tastes, while The Postal Service settles in a bit more of a pop niche.
