No matter what I do I get a fatal error crash soon after launching the game. I am able to load the shaders but I have not gotten past character creation yet. It just freezes and then crashes with the error. Running on a AMD Radeon RX 7600 with an AMD Ryzen 5 7600, 48 gigs of RAM DDR4

Also having this issue. Frustrating I had carved out a few days to play before I had to move on. Now I wonder if it even worth playing atm :(

Hey folks, I was hitting this issue too (AMD Ryzen + RTX 4070) until I tried the following:

1) Put all graphic sliders to "Low"
2) Disable upscaling

Once I loaded to the beach I was able to mess around with quality settings a bit to see what worked. There are still graphical glitches but the game is at least playable until it's patched.

I'm also having this same issue - occasionally I'm able to load in and play for a 2-5 minutes before it crashes with the same error message. Tried lowering the graphics quality to 2004 and it appears to make no difference. RTX3080, AMD Ryzen 7950x, 64GB DDR5.

Fix for me was to to turn off  NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency

All other settings are high, turning off Reflex low latency has completely fixed the UE-Alabama fatal error. No other crashes since.

Hope this helps others.

I encountered this issue as well while using an RTX 3090. Monitoring my temperatures with OCCT, I noticed that while my GPU temp hovered around 85°C, other areas of the card were reaching as high as 105°C. After identifying some airflow issues in my case (I have a new case on the way) and adjusting my voltage via MSI Afterburner, I was able to stabilize my temps and eliminate crashes.

One of the biggest improvements came from tuning my card’s clock speed down by about 200 MHz using the curve editor in MSI Afterburner. Surprisingly, this had no noticeable impact on game performance but significantly reduced power draw and heat output, making my system more stable overall. Although, I still need a case with more efficient airflow, cleary. I normally play games that are less GPU intensive, so I might not have ever noticed the issue otherwise.

Also, unlike many of you, I was able to play for about an hour before encountering the "Fatal Error." If anyone else is troubleshooting, I highly recommend checking all GPU temperature readings and not just the primary temp. Be sure to try experimenting with slight underclocking, as this adjustment made a huge difference for me!

I hope you all get this fixed :)

The latest driver does not help. The only thing that has helped most people is to turn of Ray Tracing and to not use DLSS if you are on Nvidia. Mine only crashes every ~3 hours or so now. Before it was every 20 minutes.

I can play easily 1-2 hours and then having this error popup at the most weird moments. Sometimes I am just walking around. Other times smashing a pot. Or again having a dialogue with an NPC.
The complete lack of details makes it hard to debug as it just say "Fatal Error".

I play the game on the Display 1.

There is a fresh nVidia update released just today (572.47) I am going to install it now.

Just to add more details:

I've been running into the fatal error crashes for 2-3 days now...it just kinda started happening out of nowhere practically to the point of it being unplayable...it'll crash almost my whole pc. I'll black screen entirely which isn't exactly good for a pc...I dunno if it's the shaders specifically or what, but something in their files is broken to all hell. From what I'm understanding even those with super beefy pc's have been experiencing these crashes, so I know for a fact it's not my GPU or anything..it's the game itself. They need to fix the files/coding. Until then most people like myself won't be able to continue enjoying their game :/

I have also been getting the Fata Error crash every 90 mintues or so.  Tried updating my drivers, disabled Ray tracing and the various other suggestions I've found, no change.

Hello friends,

Please send issues as well to support@obsidian.net. This way I can ensure it gets to the right support team in addition to the request for community help here.

I've got a pretty long thread on this issue here: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/134168-unplayable-constant-graphics-glitches-and-regular-fatal-errors/#comment-2387671

And also on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/avowed/comments/1istru9/fatal_error_a_rant/

You're not alone, but I'm also not seeing many options for relief right now.  Seems like we just have to wait for Obsidian to eventually diagnose and patch the issues.  I hate to say it, but best thing is probably to refund the game, wait a few months, and pick it up again on sale after they've fixed the bugs.

After 4 hours, that seemed to fix my problem. I also turned nvidia low latency off. Vsync off and fps set at 60. No tearing and no crashing. And now that i have updated this, itll probably crash
