Question

Posted

So, today I started a new game after the last patch was installed, and I found out the pre-order ring and the blue pig are not in my inventory. Weirdly enough, they are still there in old saves/characters.

Just to further clarify my situation: I originally pre-ordered Pillars of Eternity back when GOG.com didn't have automatic updates. I got my bonus thingies, and I haven't had a single problem all these years. I finally got sick of the no-auto-updates situation and bought the game on Steam (Hero Edition + White March Season Pass). This was on October 2016, so I don't really know if I should have gotten the pre-order bonus items; it was a looong time ago, and I don't really remember what was included in the version I bought. The fact of the matter is, I did get them. Oh well. Since then, I have only played my Steam version.

Now, after the last update, I no longer have the bonus items when starting a new game, even if they are in my DLC menu, ticked and all. I decided to install my GOG.com version (which I did pre-purchase)... and I don't have them either! They appear ticked on my DLC menu too.

Is this normal/a bug? How can I solve this? I know it doesn't seem to be that important, but I really want to have every possible piece of game content and I find this very frustrating.

Also, how can I contact customer support?

Thank you for your help :).

Now that you mention it, I'm seeing the same thing on my end (Pillars of Eternity - Definitive Edition, Steam version). "Preorder Item and Pet" appears in the list of DLC and is shown as being enabled, but doesn't get added to a new character's inventory.

There's a link to contact support in the first post of this thread:

There'll be a box on the right where you can contact custom support directly. Though if you are using Firefox you might need to disable "Enhanced Tracking Protection" to see it.

Thank you. Seeing that I'm not the only one to whom this is happening gives me some hopes.

I figured out how to contact support almost immediately after writing this post :P. I have already asked them. Let's cross our fingers ^^".

I've just received an answer by Obsidian. They are already aware of this issue, which is affecting many people, and will address it in their new patch - which they don't know when will be released, but still.

Did they ever fix this for you? I'm on GOG, and was a kickstarter backer, and on the newest version 3.7.1.1411 with the DLCs installed, but the only item I have is the Obsidian Order Cloak. If I reload my old saves from 2015 and 2016, all the pre-order and kickstarter items are on those characters, but not for any newly created characters. Wondering if they fixed this on Steam or if its still broken for both Steam and GOG. GOG doesn't have a beta branch I can test out like Steam does.

Nope. Still unfixed, unfortunately. I'm stuck out of the game because of this. I wanted to start a new game a while ago, and I wasn't able to because my collector OCD wouldn't let me play without the bonus items. The issue is both on Steam and GOG, as I own the game in both platforms. Latest news I got was, the devs knew about the issue and were going to fix it with their next patch - which they didn't know when would be out. Turns out, it's been seven months and still nothing. And my hype to start a new game just vanished. Oh well.

Turns out on Steam you can select either the current Beta branch which is supposed to fix that, or choose the Legacy branch to go back to the 2017 version. No luck for us GOG second-class citizens though, unless Obsidian makes these branches available on GOG Galaxy. Anyway, hope this helps so you can jump back in with a new character. I'm also a sufferer of collector OCD, so I too have just been unwilling to play until I get these items back.

Oh? And how am I supposed to access the Beta or the 2017 version? I only see the option "Play". And if I go to the local archives, there's only the regular "PillarsOfEternity.exe". No different versions. Or maybe I'm just dumb and can't find them?

Edit: Never mind, I just found out how to do it. It's actually the first time I need to do something like this. Thank you so much!

Edit 2: It WORKS! Guys, I'm explaining how to fix it (only on Steam, unfortunately) for those who, like myself, are not used to fumble with Steam options:

- Once the game is installed, go to your library, right-click on "Pillars of Eternity", go to Properties, then Beta, and finally, on the upper right dropdown, select anything but "none". If I understand correctly, "legacy" is the original game without any patches applied; "prev_update" is the last version before the current patch, which created this issue; and "public_beta" (the one I personally chose) is the playtest, still-in-the-works version of the upcoming patch, which apparently fixes many things and is pretty stable already.

Not only does this option give you the bonus items if you start a new character: it also adds the items to any previous save game from the last version (the broken one). So, in case you started a game without the bonus items, they will be added to that game too. Nice!

So I got the Steam version to try the new patch, and moved over the files from my GOG install that were for the Kickstarter backer items to the Steam installation, and it kind of worked. I got the Kickstarter backer achievement, and I got my Order of Obsidian cloak, and the pre-order bonus items were there too now on a new character, hurrah!  However, the Tiny Obisdian Wurm pet did not show up this time. I got my space piggy, but not the tiny dragon.

Did they show up in your game since you updated to the beta? Need to figure out if this is something on my install only, or if the new beta has a problem with the wurm, or possibly it could be that there is a problem with me using the file for the wurm from the old GOG version with this new updated version.

I did not back the game, only pre-ordered. So I actually never had those, I'm afraid...
