Son of Donald
Hey, this is my first time on this site, and posting. first, I’ll just say quickly, I love Obsidian. And hope the company continues to make awesome games. Alright! So here’s my post. It’s pretty much what the title says. I know it sounds weird but I’m trying to articulate the kinda theme I want this build. I’m currently playing Deadfire for the first time, just finished PoE 1, and I want to be kinda dark. Like if my character worshipped Bareth but wasn’t a priest. like imagine that goth, emo, scene, skate punk, and etc. was a thing in Eora. Not necessarily a bad person, wants to help out, but wears black and has their headphones on full blast listening to Blink 182 or Slipknot. And yes, that was me when I was 16, I don’t wear cheap plastic leather studded wrist bands anymore, but I still like to be a little dark. I know priest of Bareth obvious choice, but let’s step away from the obvious. Besides I’m not into support classes, I’m more of a melee guy but I like to be tricky. In any other u would be a rogue, hands down. And I’m doing a turned based for my first play through, so castings will be a little easier. I want to multiclass too. Sorry for the weird imagery, I’m just really trying to get a theme through. I’m honestly disappointed that vampires, or fampyr as their called in pillars lore, is not a playable creation in the second one. Or at very least do a Skyrim and join a faction to become one. I guess Druids are technically wereanimals. Anyway, would appreciate the help! I’ll be experimenting while I wait for your answers.
Not So Clever Hound
My experience is with RTwP, not turn based. But you should consider any combination of rogue (assassin, trickster) and cipher (soul blade), also Monk (forbidden fist, Helwalker). They would all fit thematically and be very melee oriented. And you’d keep a lot of flex on weapons and equipment options. Trickster/Soulblade and FF/Soulblade are usually MVPs in their coterie. Lots of good builds for those if you search this forum and others, or just go with whatever abilities you think sounds fun.

I had a feeling soul blade would work, or pretty much cipher in general, and monk is an interesting choice. I’m sorry but what are you referring to when you say FF? I know a said melee but what do you think of chanter? It has all though spooky summons?
dgray62
I second @Not So Clever Hound's recommendations. FF is a common abbreviation in this forum for the Forbidden Fist monk subclass. It features a very powerful attack, the Forbidden Fist attack, which enfeebles your foes, reducing their health and preventing them from healing. This attack provides a curse which causes you damage over time, but heals you and gives you a wound when it expires. The key to the subclass is having extremely high resolve, which causes the curse to expire extremely quickly so it heals you for more than it harms, allowing you to spam the FF attack and quickly gain wounds. However, the subclass works best if you use the Community Patch mod, which turns the FF attack into a weapon attack rather than a spell-like ability. If you use mods, by the way, there's a mod that allows you to play as a Fampyr.

It has all though spooky summons? Chanter makes almost everything great. It’s a great combo with martial and with caster classes too. Chanter/Cipher would probably be better as a pure caster > TroubaPsion. They can cast all day, everyday. Troubarogue is fun too, I had toyed with Troubadour/Trickster for some time. Torment your enemies with powerful debuff/cc, deadly weapon attacks and nightmarish summons. Just for inspiration if you’re interested i had written up a Forbidden Fist/Troubadour that can solo at max difficulty. It’s below (spoilers included). You certainly don’t have to min/max like that in a party especially if you’re on your first play through! It’s a toon that will always have something super useful to do. The FF part is exactly based on what @dgray62 mentioned above (hey, pal ) at the end of the day, there are many class combinations that can give you the flavor you’re looking for, and a lot of power. So it’s really down to what sounds the most fun to you. Edited November 28, 2022 by Not So Clever Hound
