So, I’ve been seeing that some of the stronger materials, like the Sturdy Quartzite Shard and a few others, aren’t respawnable. From what I’ve found, people are saying the devs made it that way to “limit the grinding feeling” of trying to just mine these things. How does making these resources finite accomplish this? All it does it mean that people are seriously limited in what they can upgrade, and that’s on just single player worlds. Multiplayer means you have to share the already very limited resources. The only thing making these things finite accomplishes is making players struggle and not have honestly good weapons and armor because they upgraded too much or lost their gear previously. It doesn’t stop a grinding feeling because if people didn’t want to go do that or they have already upgraded how they liked, they just won’t go get those materials. They should respawn like everything else so players don’t get to endgame with little to no proper upgrades.

This topic comes up regularly. I agree that the non-respawnable resources on the map are not enough to fully improve the ammunition of four characters. And for improvements of level 8-9 - not enough even for one character. But after all, the game simultaneously contains all the necessary recipes for crafting improvements from respawnable sources. What is the problem?

Well you can buy a recipe from the science shop for each tier (Brittle, Sturdy,Supreme) so instead of using the marbles or quarts you can use the Respawnables resources like larva parts and sap for brittle wheatstone. I see the marble/quarts sort of as a free upgrade resource as a reward for exploring

You may still be too early in the game to have found this out, but all of the upgrade materials are fully renewable later in the game - much, much later in the game for the highest tier materials, but at a pretty reasonable point for low and mid tier.

All the replies are true, however even with the craftable whetstones, there is still an insane amount of grinding for players to go through to get everything upgraded all the way, especially for mighty items.

15 supreme whetstones are needed to upgrade from level 7 to 9. For mighty upgrades, this needs 30 supreme whetstones. I feel like I get around 1 in 3 black ox beetle’s to drop a horn (though I may be wrong on that.) So possibly around. So without renewable stones, I have to kill around 90 black ox beetles to upgrade one weapon!

If one is playing alone that’s bad enough, but with multiplayer that stretches the resources pretty thin!

The issue, as pointed out, is that to remove the grind of quartzite and marble they added a worse grind for rare bug parts.

What they should do is, again as pointed out, make quartzite respawn like it used to, and make it the part necessary to craft the upgraded variants (and same for marble). For example, 5 quartzite can be baked with tough gunk (or some other bonding agent) to create 1 sturdy quartzite. And 5 sturdy to make 1 supreme. Allowing those to then be refined back into the proper whetstones. Respawn rates for quartzite can be 3 days, maybe higher for sturdy or supreme (up to 7?), If at all for those. This gives you at least the option to go on semi-regular resource runs.

It certainly shouldn't be dependent on random rare drops and the law of diminishing returns. Every frequently "processed" item in the game has consistent farming options based on recipe item respawn locations.  Only "one time" (yes, you can make multiple versions of the same item if you want) craftable items like weapons, armors, and trophies should require the RNG rare item drops.
