Severe lag spikes

Recommended Posts

Same thing, just sent in an email.  My observation is stuttering begins around the first day/night cycle (within the first 5-10 minutes), and gets progressively worse with each continuing day/night cycle (every 12 minutes).   After 2-3 in-game days, it's so bad that it resembles a continuous severe frame rate drop.  The only fix I've found is to super quit and relaunch.  But that only lasts for 5-10 minutes before the problem comes back.

go to the black ant nest near the trash heap and clean out all the food bits they've hoarded itl get worse when u get closer but as u destroy the food you'll notice it get better and better something about the ants trampling and getting stuck in 500-1000 pieces of food causing a massive amount of collisions to occur. if ur not geared or don't have a way over there don't fret, you can just build some stairs up to the deck on the house to by pass the haze.  once ur over by the trash heap there arent any aggro bugs just black worker ants and a roly poly look for a puddle of water filled with food typically u can just follow the ants. hope this helps.

It gets worse. I've seen advice online that ants collecting ridiculously large piles of food has been contributing to lag since last patch, and that devs responded to reports of this but have yet to list it on known issues. Further, they've gone on to say that collecting the heaps of food and trashing might help temporarily until a permanent fix is implemented.

So, off I went to the Black Ant hill... that was a mistake. As soon as I reached the garbage pile, I thought my game froze but it actually was just that my fps dropped to about 1 frame per 30-60 seconds. I'm actually kind of impressed the game didn't crash. But it is a shared world with only one savefile and it autosaved at this point, so now my game is broken because trying to load my save just results in a black screen.

Obsidian, I know you're working on this but please make all possible haste, this is a disaster. We need better QA when testing new patches

This has actually been an issue since before the 1.0 release, we noticed it in the Home Stretch (0.14) update and thought it was funny, didnt think it was causing any issues but it seems to only have gotten worse over time.  Can confirm thats the issue for most people though, clearing it out and building a wall has fixed the issue for both of us for a while now.
