domingos.sn Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 Somehow all the text I wrote after "Hello" got deleted before I post... sad... I'll try to work it out again here:
domingos.sn Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 3rd time is the lucky charm... Hello So I recently decided to give Deadfire a try after a long while. As I always do with cRPGs, I started with prep / research about skills, builds and key stuff about the game. Overall what I read was that the game should be really easy to cRPGs veterans, so I decided to go with Veteran difficulty since I've been playing those since BG1 and I tend to loose interest if things are too easy / story mode. Follong my PoE Paladin I decided to run with a Crusader (Paladin/Fighter) with Kind Wayfarer/Devout, which should be tanky and capable of doing some damage as my Paladin from PoE was immortal but boring. Sources here and here. So there I went from Prologue, Crash Site, Port Maje... But Eder (Fighter/Rogue) and Xoti (Monk), and went to the Digsite... Where I can't win ONE fight. Board, middle-mob, skeleton warriors... Everything just steamrolls me. So I went back to Port Maje to explore more, maybe get some extra XP... Found a flooded area where Looters just kick my ass no matter what I try. So... As the title says... What am I doing wrong? Main Char Human Paladin (Kind Wayfarer) / Fighter (Devout), specialized in Sabers (using Sword & Shield or Dual Wielding doesnt change results) Atributes: M 18, C 8, D 15, P 15, I 13, R 10 Any help?
Boeroer Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 (edited) You are not doing anything wrong - except maybe the order of fights. Both of those areas are just very tough for beginners. Try do gain as much XP as you can before you go to the digside and hire one or two adventurers before. The enemies in Gorecci Street are very tough. It's normal to get beaten by them. You can circumvent both fights with sneaking. Since fight's don't give a lot of XP but quests do, it's not a loss to sneak past some enemies instead of fighting. You can enter Gorecci Street from the south - then sneaking past the looters is very easy. For the fight at the digsite a Druid adventurer with Charm Beast (lvl 1) ist very helpful. The skeletons in the digsite are tough as well. They are only optional though - you won't miss much if you can't beat them. You can try after solving the catacombs of the digsite - ususally you will gain a level while doing this so afterwards the skeletons should be easier to beat. domingos.sn Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 Thanks for the answer Boeroer! Actually I did sneak around the digsite, but every area/subarea I was having my ass kicked so I got the impression I was "playing the game wrong"or the wrong build or something. I'll explore a bit more before going that way again I'm trying not to use custom adventurers to save money and prioritize voiced NPCs... this might be holding me?

You can use them like hired muscle for only the digsite and afterwards remove them from the party and park them on your ship. They will help in boarding fights but otherwise won't be in your way. They cost a bit of money to hire but compred to what you will loot and collect afterwards it's not really a lot of money and well worth it imo. Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
