Captain Aeldys and Principi Quests Line Bugged?

Recommended Posts

I did a search, but I didn't find any topics about this.  I have quests from the Valian and Principi that are overlapping that involve Captain Aeldys and Captain Furrante.  Maybe I did things in an order that wasn't planned for, but Aeldys seems to be bugged.

I killed Benweth earlier in the game, then I don't remember the exact order of what I did next.  I know Furrante wanted me to meet him in Dunnage after dealing with Benweth, but I didn't do that immediately afterward.  A little while later I got a missive from Aeldys to come see her, but I was busy with other things at the moment to go do that.  I eventually got around to Dunnage to meet Furrante where he asks me to got to Crookspur.  I told him I wasn't going to help him, but he marks the location on my map in case I change my mind.  When leaving Dunnage I get another letter from Aeldys asking me to meet her before I do anything for Furrante, but again, I was busy with other quests and didn't want to go out of my way to see her yet.

After finishing up other quests, Director Castrol asks me to go to Dunnage and see Furrante.  I decided to go see Aeldys before heading to Dunnage for Castrol, but her dialog didn't make any sense.  It's like she thinks I'm here for another quest which I don't even have yet, talking about her plan to capture the Floating Hangman and tells me to come back later because she has a few more things to do.  I remember some conversation about it when I was in Dunnage the first time and I had a scripted encounter with it later, but that's it.

I decide to load a save before going to Fort Deadlight and instead go to Dunnage to see Furrante.  That dialog was a little weird too.  When I arrive, I told him I was there for the Castrol, and it just gives me the same dialog we already had when he gives me the quest to go to Crookspur island.  The quest for Castrol doesn't update though.  It then goes into some dialog with the council sentencing Aeldys to death, and then he asks me to go take care of her and get information from her about how she plans to capture the Floating Hangman.

When I leave Dunnage, I get the same exact missive from Aeldys that I got the before (I have two of them in my inventory now).  I go to Fort Deadlight to meet with her and now when I arrive, there's a forced dialog with someone saying he's there to escort me to her.  I choose to go with him.  She is the one that asked me to come see her, but she asks me why I'm here or something.  There are a few more dialog options now though.  I can tell her about her being sentenced to death, a couple of options about the Floating Hangman, but nothing about the other two quests that started when she sent me missives earlier.

yeah i don't know how you got to that state, but that seems pretty bugged.

IIRC, this is what's supposed to happen the first time you meet aeldys, after dealing with benweth.

this sounds like what happens when you finish all the pre-act iv faction quests and they're waiting for you to do the critical path, not your first aeldys meeting.

i don't have any good advice for you because it looks like things are so tangled up it might be hard to fix with a few console commands.

The last part of the main quest I did was meeting Eothas at Magran's Teeth.  When I returned to the palace after that, Aeldys did barge in.  I guess you're expected to go see her before that.  The dialog I have with her now seems to be me having to decide whether to side her or Furrante.

I ended up going about other business because I didn't think I'd be siding with the Principi anyway.  The RDC gave me a quest to wipe out the slavers at Crookspur.  When I got there, there was a woman on the beach who thought Aeldys sent me.  After talking to her, one of the quests, A Shrewd Proposition, updated telling me Aeldys wants me to disrupt the slave operation.  I wiped out the slavers and freed the slaved, and the quest updated telling me to return to Aeldys.  I went back to Fort Deadlight, but I have no dialog options with her other than to say Farewell.

After the Huana Queen asks me to start a war with the trading companies by blowing up the RDC powder house in order to gain their help, and the RDC wants me to assassinate the Queen to gain their help, I don't want anything to do with them.  I don't know what the VTC wants from me because that quest will not update, it's still telling me to go meet Furrante.  Now I'm actually leaning toward siding with the Principi because capturing a haunted ship sounds way more interesting than dealing with the politics between the Huana and trading companies.  The way things are bugged though, I don't know if I will be able to complete their quests to get that far.

Just an update for anyone that cares.  I went to Dunnage, and after dealing with Furrante it seems to have sorted out the Principi quest line.  I outed Furrante for dealing with slavers, so they hung him.  Aeldys took over and gave me the quest to capture the Floating Hangman, however her other quest, A Shrewd Proposition, is still broken, still telling me to meet her in Fort Deadlight.  I even made the candied nuts she asked for in her letter.

The VTC quest, Of Like Minds, updated after Furrante was killed, but it's bugged too.  It now tells me to Investigate Crookspur island.  I've already killed the slavers and freed the slaves, but I went up there and double checked everywhere and can't find anything to make that quest advance.  If I can't complete that quest, I don't think I will be able to even side with the VTC if I want to.

Strange things happened to me as well.

- I defeated Fort Deadlight early on, but spared Benweth's life.

- Then I got the missive from Aeldys, but didn't pay her a visit.

- Then I cleared up Magran's Teeth, and the first time I've personally seen Aeldys was when she barged in at the debriefing at the royal palace.

- Then I went to Dunnage (because the Valians wanted me to have a chat with them), met with Furrante, he gave me two questlines: go to Crookspur and talk to their leader, and to hunt down the ghost ship. After I left Dunnage, I immediately got two missives: one from Furrante, telling me where to go for the ghost ship (strangely, it doesn't appear as a quest, the "Symbols of Death" is closed after I gave the info about the undead paladin), and one from Aeldys, who wrote she regrets I didn't pay her a visit the first time she invited me (so the devs had taken that into account!).

- So I went to Deadlight to meet Aeldys, I even prepared her favorite candy, but she is nowhere to be found! In the Command room, there are desks with maps, she's not there. There is a side room with the fireplace with many discarded nutshells, so I assume it's her room, because candied nuts are her favorite. But she's not there either. I never ever set foot on Crookspur yet, so those quests should not have been progressed.

Did I miss something, or is it a bug?

(Edit: I've read Furrante's missive again, and I realized he organized a meeting first before going for the ghost ship... so I went back to Dunnage, and I found out why Aeldys wasn't at her base: she was tied up at that meeting. I still keep this information for any others who happen to get baffled by this same order of events)
