keep the Stems... and add some feathers
the hard quill-tip up so that water runs out and down ... 
plenty of Woven Fiber to hold it all together ...

I think it'd look absolutely awesome .... 
Feathers are fantastic at shedding water .. and MUCH more durable and lasting than clover ... 
again .. like many of my posts .... giving us more construction options

Sure why not.  I'd probably never use it but it does sound cool, and will give us another use for the feathers.
