As far as I can discover, the only way to get through the upper bowel passage is if you happen to have 16 alchemy. I'm nowhere near that, not having found it necessary up to now. So what can I do to get on with the mission?

What? I remember getting injury (failing check) when picking some stuff from the wall but i didn't put single point in alchemy and I could progress to Oracle.

The guide I'm using says

 

Enter the newly unlocked room and fight The Bowels Alchemist and a series of Dreambeasts. Afterward, loot Antiseptic Cream, then use it on the nearby pit to partially open the Passage to The Depths (do not take the passage yet or your main character will die).

At Excavation Site, steal the alchemical charge from the table, then place the charge on the nearby duct to blow it up, clearing the Passage.

Return to Temple of Revelation and speak to Drowsy Puke and request Deep Slumber, then go through the Passage.

I got the duct blown, which closed one of the three inputs. I got the cream but there's apparently an alchemy check that I can't pass; I think our collective score is around 12 and it's asking for 16. Any time I try to go down the hole, my main dies. What am I missing?

 

 

Here? There is some fungus somewhere on the wall to combine.

Ahh... Forgot to read all the details in the quest log.

Does anybody know where to get the fungal growth from to combine the cream with?!
