Next time I play, I will play a dual class character for the first time and I have a question. Does my character stop leveling when the first class reaches 20?

Multiclasses don’t level their classes separately. Your character advances in level from 1-20, just as with single classes. You just get to pick class abilities from both classes, though at a slower rate and a lower power level.
