I'm stuck.  My team reached level 16 today and for some reason when I attempt to level up my party, it will let me choose my active and passive skills, but it auto selects my abilities and new Weapon selection and auto-jumps to the final level screen.  It skips directly through those two options without giving me the option to choose my own.  This is not on new characters just joining, these are my party members from the beginning.

I save my game for each levels we reach so I went back to level 15 and the same thing happens.

Not sure how to proceed as I don't want the game choosing my new abilities and spells.  I'm not using any mods just the vanilla game and the dlc that has come out for it.

Any others having this issue or know of something (like an option box) I might just be missing?

You may have accidentally triggered auto-leveling in the game options. If that's not the case then it's a bug.

That was my thought as well but I was unable to locate a toggle for that in the options.  I unchecked the one for "New" npc's joining the party but that was the only one I found.  Now even if I go back to earlier saves even going back weeks ago, same thing happens.  Must be something I accidentally hit or toggled but I have no idea what that is.

Hopefully its not a bug.  would hate to have to shelve this until its fixed.

FIrst make a backup of your save (you can found it in C:\Users\YourUserName\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity II)

So try to do that

after that

launch the game, start a new run (be sure to have disabled the auto level-up)

then exit and copy your savegame in savegame folder

launch the game and try to reload

Turns out it was a bad file.  Started a new game and when I got to the beach and it brought up the options for Eder, instead choosing skills for him I instead got " *Missing String -1" .

I did a validation of the files via Steam and it gave me a message of "1 file not able to be validated.  Will reacquire".  I relaunched the game and now all is well.

Thanks for suggestions all.  LOVE this game and glad to be past this small obstacle!

I'm seeing the same issue, but the Steam validation didn't find anything to fix... wondering if a full reinstall is my only hope.  :(
