  1. Hell, try Republic Commando, which was released a few weeks ago. Great game, too short though. What does this show? LA has the talent needed to make a good game, however once again, a business decision [ship now] overrode a technical one. [hmm.. it's not long enough.]
  2. Sure, it's a terrible position to be in. But like I said, whether they go bankrupt in a contract dispute with Lucas Arts, or whether they go bankrupt because gamers are afraid to buy their products, it's all the same. Here is an exercise for the reader: What recently bankrupted gaming company was infamous for blaming publishers for pushing games through to release!
  3. You're not saying anything we don't already know, however I think you're understating OE's role in the process. I suspect it was more like: LA: Give us what you've got. OE: It's not ready. LA: Give it to us anyway. OE: Uh.. ok. No one blames OE for actually deciding to release the game, instead they get the blame for letting them release it with OE's name stamped all over it. OE should have pushed back and said "no, you can't have it." because when it comes down to it, it doesn't really matter if OE collapses because of a publisher dispute or if they collapse because they consistantly bow to publisher pressure and release crappy games. Either way they're dead in the water.
  4. It's also worth noting that Atari (NWN2 publishers) are also fans of the "Publish Early Publish Often" mantra of old. How do we know that NWN2 isn't going to suck? We're gamers OE, you don't really need to give us a reason to like the products you make. But you do need to give us a reason not to be immediately suspicious as soon as we hear that you are doing the dev work on them. That's all we ask.
  5. Umm... LA was the one who ORDERED the game to be released, even though they knew of the outstanding numbers of technical issues. The completely failed in their QA. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sure, and now Obsidian Entertainment is known as the company that "backed down and shipped an inferior product". How do we know their next product won't reflect the same lack of pride in their craftsmanship? Regardless of who ordered who to ship what, the fact remains that OE developed KOTOR2 and it was bad. now the question has to be asked: "Will NWN2 [1] be bad? What if Atari wants to ship urgently for christmas?" Will OE stand up and say "No it's not ready for shipping, and if you push, the deal is off?" Or will they betray their customers once again and ship an inferior product. OE can certainly argue 'Pushing back will destroy our company.', but I have to say 'Not pushing back will destroy it quicker. Also, OE, if you want some cheap furniture, the remains of Troika are probably still available.' [1] Or any future product by OE.
  6. Same here. Great title, even with the issues. I'm just waiting to replay it at this point, and waiting for the patch gives me an excuse to play something else. I feel for those who can't play the game, for in my opinion it really was an excellent follow-up to the first KotOR. Too funny. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Uh, download from Xbox Live? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> TSL isn't Live enabled. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Microsoft don't allow patches via xbox live. Which is a good idea, because it means that companies won't be encouraged to race it out the door and patch it later via xbox live. Sadly, it might take some companies a few bad releases before they realise they only get one shot at it.
  7. Yeah, and could you tell one Star Destroyer from another? Or one X-Wing from another even? I mean, I doubt it was the ONLY ship of its kind at Malachor V. Maybe it was. *shrug* Hopefully one of the General's fighting on the planet could. Regardless of this, you're right - the ending that we found in the source files is far superior to the one that they tried to sell us.
  8. That's ok, there's enough blame for everyone! (w00t)
  9. We're not talking about something 'extra', we're talking about basic functionality which was promised when the game was bought. They said on the box it would work on ATI cards and it doesn't. [At least not without significant driver fussing]. We're not talking about a few select computers either, we're talking about (roughly) half of the computers out there. In the end, I think Obsidian will be lucky. The skill of their writers has made up for the incompetence of their developers, and I think once the poor ATI users get everything working they will be happy enough with the end result.
  10. Copy the 4.11 open GL driver into the KOTOR2 directory, I had exactly this problem, and it was fixed by the new driver. Send me a PM if you need a copy of the file, I will host it for the ATI users with this problem.
  11. Copy the 4.11 open GL driver into the KOTOR2 directory, I had exactly this problem, and it was fixed by the new driver. PS: Yes, I know this is a cop out solution, but it all comes down to whether you want to wait to see if Obsidian is interested in fixing their product, or whether you want to play now. I chose b.
  12. Sir, this is why you are what we call 'part of the problem'. I didn't have to mess around with my drivers for HL2, Doom 3, or any one of the other 'big name' games that have come out in the last 6 months. It's by no means 'standard practice' to do so.
  13. EULA's have NEVER been tested in court - case law of that magnitude would rattle through the IP world like some kind of crazy rattling thing. Unless you can cite a specific case, I'm afraid I'm going to have to call you on that.
  14. The bug with ATi cards dropping to a few frames a second in the fuel dump area of the first section of the game, and then the movement keys not working anymore. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> well, for the ATI problem, you should try the 4.11 drivers, anything higher has been known to slow things down on Kotor, i know it does, but since i haven't got Kotor II yet, i don't know. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've tried them, no joy. Uninstalled, ran the cleaner, installed the 4.11 drivers. Exactly the same. I then tried the install 4.11 and then the 8.07 thing posted by one of the guys on this forum. But also to no avail. What I don't understand is why they took a game which had to run on Direct X on the X Box, and turned it into an Open GL game for PC. It makes no sense! Ed: Ok, I take it all back - I must have done something stupid earlier. Either that, or it's a combination of the latest and the 8.07 drivers that are needed to make it work. To explain, I copied the opengl file from the driver pack into the KOTOR2 directory, and now it's ok. Not great.. barely playable in fact, but it's good enough for me to grit my teeth and move onto the next section. I applaud your good work sir!
