Can't get past initial loading screen

I am having the very same problem - status loading bar freezes 1/3 way though after character creation. I've reinstalled the game twice, checked that I am running no background programs, and checked that all my drivers are up to date. System specs: Windows XP (all updates) 512 MB of RAM Pentium 4, 1.80 GHz NVIDIA GeForce3 (latest driver update)
