Most spells have an aoe effect, I think if you're in the front line you're getting healing splash-over to the enemy.
-
So you're saying that because they show the fan radius it's not as dangerous. I disagree with that assessment though, but that's fine.
-
Isn't there a whole class of enemy that's almost all 9-12 year old children animated by the souls of animals? I've killed like dozens of those. Would be annoying if the game made them invulnerable.
Yep, they're called Wichts.
-
In my book it should be OP'd, it's one of those highly difficult spells to use and very situational. The chance of FF is very high using it as well, and the chance of the enemy negating part or all of the damage is also good.
-
Far as I know it's impossible. Maybe one of the devs could chime in.
-
And let us not forget the thieving brats in The Den.
Well giving them what they want solves the problem pretty easily. I like grenades. I just happen to give it to them, sans pin, and neatly stored in their pocket.
-
I'll never understand the obsession with killing children in RPGs.
*shrug* Whatever floats your boat I guess.
Some people just want to be the bad guy. I once played fallout as an evil, self-driven person bent on only their personal desire to get what they want and then killed people when their usefulness was at an end.

This is really weird - I'm on a fairly old HDD and my load screens are nearly instant - I don't see them being any more plentiful than they were in IE games - and they're certainly much faster for me. My Quick saving *was* nearly instant for a large portion of them game, then around hour 40 it started slowing way down (I assume perhaps because I have a GIANT stash of crap i'm carrying around). Maybe there's something in particular that's slowing the show down.
Well my stash isn't overly full, I did have a lot of crap in there at one point but sold it all. It seems that some items persist in merchant stores, in turn that creates bloat in the save game which in turn causes the save time and loads to increase. When I started my saves were ~1-2MB they're ~13MB now, and it seems that the game is loading a lot of game data into locallow as well.

Well, let's be honest shall we? These people aren't the audience, they most likely don't own the game, they didn't back the game. They're throwing a hissyfit because someone told them to in most cases. They're perpetually offended, they then go out of their way to threaten, attack, and try to drown out the opinions, thoughts, feelings, and stances on it under the guise of various 'isms' while attempting to claim the moral high ground. Of course when you look at what they actually say, you see that they're ideologically bankrupt, believe that there are no bad targets, and have zero problems pushing their ideology onto someone else while claiming to be "open, inclusive," and all that.
In short, you could call them intellectual terrorists. Or if that rankles you too much, simply use bigots and be done with it. Myself? I'm tired of them trying to insert their perpetually offended ideology into the things I enjoy. It of course gets worse when you start getting into issues relating to sexuality, and then you see them for the neo-puritans that they are. Then you quickly realize that the previous actions are all linked back to that puritanism.

Peh. Trusting Kotaku on something is like trusting World Weekly News for factual information.

I just received word from Valve that the issues should be fixed regarding not being able to view achievements. I just checked on my account and it shows all of the achievements correctly.
Yep it's working perfectly Thanks BAdler, there's quite a few people happy over on the steam forums over it now too.
-
Hey, everyone. After doing some tests on my machine I think it is a Steam client issue. If you have had the client open since before the game was released I think that Steam isn't properly updating your account.
If you are seeing this problem, please completely quit out of the Steam client and jump back in. It should fix your problem (hopefully).

Still not able to see the achievement list, I am using the beta client though. Though achievements are now working at least on my end.
-
Well I'm now getting some achievements. I was on Act 2 for about 3 hours and then suddenly "act 1 completed" kicked over. Still can't view the individual achievements though without it redirecting.
-
That's what happens if you activate a product on Steam but didn't actually buy it on Steam. It's really annoying, but if you go to the game in your library instead of profile it should say the stuff there like achievements and play time
I'll just go ahead and call that wrong now. Since I have nearly 300 games on my library and a good number of them were bought from sites like GMG a couple of others like D:OS and W2 were also given keys like PoE. Going to your library and profile doesn't work either, something got screwed in the pooch somewhere. I got the kickstarter badge, nothing else, nothing tracks except hours played, got 4 cards for my effort but that's it.

I *should* be in bed, I should be sleeping. Still playing since 1pm...we've got ourselves a winner guys. I have a feeling that this is going to go down as one of those classic games that everyone loves.
-
I think that's the one used for the backer beta, because I have it too and the creation date of the folder is way older than the release of the full game today.
Yep, that's the one for the Backer Beta.
I wasn't in the backer beta, and the creation date is for today. So either there's something wrong with PoE and it's creation settings, or there's a conflict against the UAC in Win8 and it's being forced to locallow. Don't mind the imgur link, it's faster than waiting for the forums right now.

FYI on Windows 8 saves are located:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Obsidian Entertainment\Pillars of Eternity\CurrentGame

The version listed on steam is 1.0.2.0508

Unfortunately, Metacritic's score aggregation methodology is biased, and there appears to be a double standard for indie games vs. mainstream. I'm predicting average score of 84. I expect it will be mostly well reviewed, but we'll see a few lowball scores from the mainstream press complaining about "too many words" and it being a nostalgia clone like this idiotic preview claims.
Ah one of those folks who don't read books, and requires their entertainment to be in very small doses with lots of bangs, explosions, and more explosions. Almost shocking right?

Yes, + keys can be stolen and sold to resellers.
FYI for those that don't know, how the stolen and sold to resellers bit works. What happens is someone makes a copy of the key manifest at a legit site, then sells it through a channel to the other site. This means that two or more people are then given the same key, and one person gets screwed. Usually keys are provided in .xls format, so I'm sure you can see how easy it would be for someone to copy it. Especially if the person in question is manually input them into some other sites database. Believe it or not, some sites actually do use people to enter keys manually still. Interestingly enough though, there are a few sites that buy legally in bulk retail boxed copies and input the keys into their database. I believe Green Man Gaming has done this in the past, and I know nuuvum(Brazilian e-store retailer) does as well.
And for a site to order say...3k-10k boxed copies they get a substantial bulk discount, so I'm sure people can see how some sites are able to offer a discount even on release day.

Why does it go up and down like some sort of sinusoidal function?
I didn't see that anyone explained why, but if you notice the date/time it corresponds to when people are online/not at work/etc in various regions of the world.
-
Thank you Asmo, we'll pass this along!
Looking at the usual CD-key trade sites, they're hammering fast on the price. I can see two sites offering "gifting and regional UK/RU" keys for $11 already. As a backer, I'd like Obsidian to get their moneys worth from those that didn't back.

So all the rage and anger were misplaced huh.. Who would have guessed. I just preloaded my game in 4 minutes. Hell, it went so fast, I couldn't enjoy the cohiba and scotch I prepared. Oh well, guess I'll have that much more for when I start the game. Life is good!
Your internet connection is ridiculous, buddy; there I was all happy with my 45 minute preload :D
I was thinking the same thing, I'm in Canada and I'm still stuck waiting 30 minutes for the preload. Not like it really matters or anything, since I can't play it but I'll tell ya...I wouldn't mind having internet that fast.
-
I wonder what's in it for GoG and Steam, though? I doubt they're distributing 70,000 odd copies for free.
Platform recognition, the same reason why Hatred gives a Steam key and Desura key. Once you get a person on a particular distribution platform, they're more likely to buy products directly from the storefront. In turn that generates sales for the distributor.

Thinking of buying, worried about Wizards though
in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Posted
Well any IE game aoe damage spells hit your party as well, they're always a situational cast. I have three grimoires now for my wizard and switch between targeted use and a aoe-only grimoire, then I have a dibilitator and controller grimoire as well.
