  1.

Welp, got my collector's edition in Australia, so that took about two weeks from posting to receiving. Which is actually better than the other stuff from projects on kickstarter usually take to get to me.

Lucky Australians, you get it before they even start shipping to us Europeans here.

Well, according to their update they should be arriving in Europe soon..

Yeah and then in 2 to 17 months they might start shipping them too ... ;)

  2. The shipping, and the communication about it, was handled poorly.  Leading up to the release, with the poll and subsequent updates the overall impression was that the physical goods minus the game discs shipped before the March 26 release.  But they didn't.  Some still have not shipped!

Everything shipped late and Obsidian/Paradox chose the worst/slowest carrier possible out of the big 3 in the US.

My shipping label was printed March 25 but the game did not actually ship until March 30, yesterday.  The original email I got from Paradox estimate March 30-31 delivery but it will be April 1 best case.

Well at least your copy is on its way.

You had your shipping included in the price of the box, in Europe here i had to pay 30$ on top of that and in return my box is not even on its way yet. I can live with it being late in Europe (its doable to not be late though), but when it is communicated that i get the things on release day i do expect them here around that time as well. When i am then being asked in a poll if i would like the box on release day without the disc in it or later with the disc the thing totally changes.

I mean come on ... YOU asked us if we wanted the stuff incomplete and on release day ??? And now i might get it a month or two late and still incomplete ? Seriously ??

What i did not like is the "Backer Beta" as it was clearly not a beta test. It was a showcase for the game and not a real test.

The amount of stuff fixed thanks to backer beta begs to differ!

It was a good thing, it just didn't meet what i expected from a beta test. I am OK with how it went, just my feedback about a clarification for future projects. Betas i have been in before had the complete game in them,  with feedback about encounters and everything else. Beta basically used to mean "complete game without bugfixes" and that is what i was thinking.

If i would have joined it is another story, the "backer beta" was great for spoiler free feedback as it was and therefor i might have avoided a full beta. Just giving my 2 cents about what i expected a beta to be.

  4. @Vardia ... huh? The BB was most definitely a beta, not a showcase. They incorporated a huge amount of feedback they got from us during the process into the game. Want a list?

I am aware of the feedback, but it was a showcase of the system not a beta of the product. I am not saying it was pointless, it was just not a beta test like the ones i was in before.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Beta sais:

Beta, named after the second letter of the Greek alphabet, is the software development phase following alpha. It generally begins when the software is feature complete but likely to contain a number of known or unknown bugs.[3] Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues and may still cause crashes or data loss. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. The process of delivering a beta version to the users is called beta release and this is typically the first time that the software is available outside of the organization that developed it.

Maybe it was my expectation to have the real game as a beta, complete with signed NDA and everything. It was not really made clear what the "backer beta" would be.

  5. Thank you for your response LadyCrimson :)

From reading that thread I'm somewhat under the impression that the rewards listed on my account will be downloadable from Obsidian's site and on GoG I will only be able to download items listed under their "Champion Edition" product entry?

    Maybe?!?

    Cheers

    Rowan/LSWSjr

Your impression would be correct from what was said before.

  6. Hi,

first: sorry if my english sounds weird. I got the flu and thinking/writing in my own language is atm difficult enough (thanks to headaches). ;)

    Ok,

when I had the chance back in the days, I backed for the "Digital Fun Pack", which includes stuff like

    • Digital Downloadable Copy of Pillars of Eternity, DRM free for Windows, Mac, or Linux.
    • Kickstarter only in-game achievement and item.
    • Pillars of Eternity Kickstarter Backer Forum Badge.
    • Digital download of the Cooking with Tim Cookbook – An RPG-themed e-Cookbook.
    • Digital download of the making of Pillars of Eternity Documentary.
    • Digital Downloadable Soundtrack in MP3 and FLAC.
    • Digital Collector's Book.
    • Digital Novella by Chris Avellone.
    • Digital Campaign Almanac.
    • Kickstarter Exclusive In-Game Pet.
    • Digital High-Res Game Map.
    • Digital High-Res Concept Art Pieces.
    • Wallpapers for Multiple Monitors.
    • Ringtones.

"Yeah", I thought recently, "I will get the  ROYAL EDITION on Steam", because, well... the content of the Digital Fun Pack and the Royal Edition are the same.

But when I redeemed the key for Steam and I "just" got the Kickstarter Champion Edition.

I know, what a lot of you will now tell me: "But you will be able to download the missing stuff from the Obisidan/Pillars of Eternity-website!!!!!!!111eleven. At least we hope that!".

Well, that's the thing... I wanted all on Steam ;(

And to be honest... I still have no clue about the difference between "Champion Edition" and "Kickstarter Champion Edition" oO

So... why did we (the Digital Fun Pack owners) get the Champion Edition and not the Royal Edition on Steam?

Cause (same as with the 100 other posts) there is an item in the royal that your fun pack does not get. You do get all the rewards from your fun pack from the backer portal.

  7. My feedback is that the communication could be improved, but it did ok mostly.

What i did not like is the "Backer Beta" as it was clearly not a beta test. It was a showcase for the game and not a real test. So if you advertise early access beta, give us a beta to test complete with plans what to test and when etc.

The spoiler free showcase was OK, but i never felt like i could contribute like a beta tester could.

And yes in my book a beta is still the feature complete full game.

  8.

Origin is another portal with less games that could as well be in steam for less hassle.

I'll never understand how customers can actually demand a monopoly... It's like punching yourself in the face.

Yeah that is true even though steam does not really abuse its power so far. But yeah the convenience is the key to just wishing one portal.

As long as i dont have to deal with Uplay im OK with most methods of getting a game, hell i would even insert a blu-ray disc into my PC if needed.

And guess why that is, it's because they do not have the monopoly yet.

    They already have it.
