  1. For the boxed copies, this is how it works:

    - Backer boxed copies all contain unprotected versions of the game. No Steam, SecuROM or anything else. If the planet is overrun by a zombie apocalypse, and you happen to live in Alexandria and have a modernish PC with a DVD-ROM drive, you'll still be able to play Eternity without any initial online connections! We will have loose patches available for this version once it's released too, that can be downloaded from our site.

    - Boxed copies that will be sold in stores will be Steam versions.

In order to make sure physical backers who still wanted Steam and/or to play on March 26th, we added a digital key to accounts who didn't get one, so everyone could play on launch.

  2. While the other stuff isn't available until either tomorrow or Thursday, you can view what will come with your pledges by checking out the Orders tab in your Account Profile:

    https://eternity.obsidian.net/account/orders

When you click on the order itself, there should be a link that says "What does this include?" that you can click to learn more about what comes with your reward tier.

  3. Hi guys, sorry for the continued delays. I just posted the keys live for each of the various types depending on what products you pledge for. We haven't sent out the official e-mails yet - those will start tomorrow; just want to make sure everything is running smoothly.

Oh please note, if you redeem GOG keys, the game will not appear in your library until Thursday after 9 AM PST (17:00 CET).

  4. STOCKHOLM — November 11, 2014 — Paradox Interactive and Obsidian Entertainment today announced that Pillars of Eternity, the fan-funded role-playing game (RPG) inspired by classics of the genre, is now available to pre-order from digital distributors everywhere with a discount available for early purchasers. Pre-orders of the game will also include special in-game bonus items – while fans who backed the game on Kickstarter will receive these extras free of charge.

Paradox and Obsidian have also announced that this week they plan to reveal a wide array of never-before-seen game content via a live stream, hosted by Josh Sawyer, Project Director for Pillars of Eternity, alongside popular gaming personality Jesse Cox. The live stream will air Thursday, November 13 at 1pm PST (22.00 CET) on the official Paradox Interactive Twitch channel: www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive

Get a breathtaking glimpse at the beautiful world of Eora in a newly released trailer for Pillars of Eternity.

All pre-orders of Pillars of Eternity will receive a 10% discount (limited time offer) off of the game's full retail price and will include two secret, special in-game items. This discount and the in-game bonus offer are valid for both versions of the game, including the Hero Edition, which includes the full version of Pillars of Eternity, and the Champion Edition, which includes both the full game and a variety of premium bonuses:

    • A digital copy of the Pillars of Eternity Original Soundtrack (OST)
    • A digital campaign almanac containing backstory, lore, and information about Eora
    • Access to a documentary on the making of Pillars of Eternity
    • A high-resolution digital game map
    • High-resolution Pillars of Eternity wallpapers
    • Pillars of Eternity ringtones for mobile devices

Fans who pledged for a copy of Pillars of Eternity during the Kickstarter campaign will receive the pre-order in-game bonus items at no extra cost upon the game’s launch in 2015.

Pillars of Eternity is an RPG inspired by classic titles such as Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment, which features an original world and game system that evokes and improves upon the traditional computer RPG experience. Funded via Kickstarter in late 2012, raising $4.5 million through both backer pledges on Kickstarter and Obsidian’s own website, Pillars of Eternity has been a project of passion both for the development team and for the loyal fans who have made it possible.

  6. I can't speak for registry stuff at the moment (apparently this is how Unity stores things by default and maybe it can be changed) but I can say that saved game stuff is moving in either the next Backer Beta or the following to %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity.

I'm in agreement myself about Registry-usage and using the "proper" spots for persistent game data - it's just bending Unity's defaults to our will :)

  7. Update by Darren Monahan, Fulfillment Fellow and Obsidian Co-founder

    Hi everyone,

With the backer beta out now, and the *con season (Gamescom, PAX, Gen Con, et al.) coming to a close for the year, we wanted to give you an update on what we've been up to. We’re busy working on three big things: 1) getting everything on the fulfillment side ready to go, 2) working through many changes and improvements based on feedback from folks playing the backer beta, and 3) wrapping up the game proper.

    Fulfillment
As of this week, we’re busy finishing and/or approving all of the final designs for nearly all of the physical rewards so production can begin. It’s very exciting to see this all coming together and often isn't part of the process we get to be involved in at such a deep level on our other projects. It’s one thing to have a playable game here in the studio that we continually maintain – it’s another to be able to really help design the look, feel, and content of every little bit of what comprises a game that ultimately will ship out to you.

Here’s a sample of what the collector’s edition box is going to look like for backers:

    pe-ce-box.jpg

In future updates we’ll show some of the other goodies.

We’ve been working really closely with the great folks at Dark Horse who are putting together the finishing touches on the amazing Collector’s Book for the game, and the equally great folks at Prima are busy working on the strategy guide. We’re working with the same author from the Fallout: New Vegas strategy guide, which we’re very excited about!

    Backer Beta Feedback
A very big THANK YOU to all of those playing the backer beta and providing feedback on our forums! We’re focusing on a lot of changes right now based on your feedback – big improvements to pathfinding and combat, some significant changes to scouting and stealth and how they work, and we’re doing a lot of reviews on the game’s UI and overall presentation to improve the experience. Expect to see a lot of changes coming in on the beta over the coming weeks. Again, thank you to all of you providing feedback – we really appreciate it. We have folks internally who are scouring every single post and thread daily to move bugs and other feedback into our bug tracking system internally.

    Wrapping the Game Up
Over the next several weeks, the team is focusing on a couple key things: area and quest finalization and plowing through the many final tasks and bugs. To keep things “old school”, we’re even employing the Quest Whiteboard of Baldur’s Gate 2 and Icewind Dale fame, where all of the quests in the game are posted on a very visible whiteboard in the office, and designers and QA fight (to the death?!) to certify that quests are 100% done and clean, by removing the evil X’s in their respective department columns. In this case, two X’s enter, ZERO X’s leave. That’s the goal anyway. Here it is as it was finished being set up - note, each item on this board can have many steps and states that all have to be checked before the X can come off for the entire thing.

We’ll be back in a couple weeks with some more pics of other physical rewards and an update on how we’re doing. Have a great weekend!

    Wasteland 2 is Out!
    wl2-hollywood-580.jpg

By the way, since today is Friday, September 19th – Wasteland 2 is now shipping!

Congratulations to our good friends and fellow ex-Interplay/Black Islanders over at inXile Entertainment on their release today of Wasteland 2! I know what I’ll be doing this weekend – hopefully you’ll be doing the same!

If you’re not familiar with Wasteland 2, it’s the modern follow up to the granddaddy of post-apocalyptic RPG’s, Wasteland; it’s actually one of the games that heavily inspired me to first apply at Interplay back in 1994. It’s exciting to see it come out and that so many backers, like many of you, were a big part of it being made in the first place.

Head over to the Wasteland 2 Steam page to check it out.

If you’re one of the folks who gets a copy of the game as a reward for one of your Pillars of Eternity tiers, the Steam version is available immediately, and for those of you who prefer to get the game on GOG, we’ll have an announcement shortly once we have those keys ready for distribution.

Again, congrats to the team at inXile!

  8. Hi everyone,

On behalf of everyone here at Obsidian Entertainment, THANK YOU most graciously for all of your contributions to, and continued interest in, Pillars of Eternity. It means SO much to all of us here working on the project, and we appreciate it so humbly.

So where do we go from here? Well, Paradox Interactive will be taking things from this point on. They'll handle the retail release of the game and are helping to get everything produced and shipped out to those of you getting physical items.

We've closed down the Eternity site to most forms of crowdfunding now except under a few situations:

    1) Existing backers can still buy digital addons, like the Backer Beta.

    2) Backers who haven't confirmed their pledge orders yet can still do so, and have a last minute chance to upgrade, if desired. That will be closing soon too, and pledges not confirmed on the Eternity site will be locked to their originally selected rewards. More info on that soon.

    3) Backers who e-mailed us by this 11 AM PDT this morning who wanted to modify their order. We'll help make all of those changes as requested.

This week, we'll take a look at all of the orders made on the Eternity site, and any backers who didn't want to use our site or haven't yet come and completed their orders, will tally everything up, and send final numbers over to Paradox and the suppliers so they know how much of what they need to produce. Fun times ahead!

Thank you all again, and have a great week!

  9. Hi everyone!

New Backers: To make sure new backers can get their pledges in, we're allowing new backers to create pledges throughout the weekend. On Monday morning our time at about 10:30 AM (PDT) we'll close off new backers and will move to pre-ordering soon thereafter.

Existing Backers: If you're an existing backer and haven't confirmed your pledge order yet (you should have hopefully received an e-mail nag from us today about that if not!) please do so as time permits! To complete your pledge order, head to the Backer Portal and click on the Select Reward button to start.

Do I have a Confirmed Order? If you're not sure if you have a confirmed pledge order, you can visit the Orders tab of your Account Profile. If you don't see any orders listed as Confirmed, please head to the Backer Portal and click on Select Reward to start the pledge finalization process!

Thank you so much for your support and have a great weekend!

    Darren

  10. Hi everyone,

We've received a lot of support tickets and are working on them from oldest to newest as we receive them. Fortunately, a few people are now back from Gamescom and Gencon who can help us get through them more quickly.

As long as we receive any order modification requests by the end of August 22nd, we'll honor any changes you'd like to make and make sure that you get what you'd like, even if that bleeds into next week.

Thank you guys so much for your interest in the game and we so sincerely appreciate your patience with us!

    Thanks!

    Darren

  11. Having trouble with the backer beta? We'll periodically update this thread with the latest frequently asked questions.

Q: I should have the Backer Beta, but it's not appearing in my Products tab!

A: You may not have completed your pledge order yet. If you visit the Orders tab in your Account Profile and you don't see any orders listed as "Completed" there, it likely means you haven't completed your pledge order yet. To do so, head over to the Backer Portal, verify the amount of money you pledged looks accurate, and then click on the Select Reward button. Once you complete your pledge order, then revisit the Products tab.

Q: I've completed my order, but I still don't see the Backer Beta!

A: The backer beta is only available currently to folks who backed tiers of $110 or more, or to folks who purchased the Backer Beta as an add-on for $25. If you're interested in purchasing the Backer Beta, head to the Backer Portal and click on the Buy Addons button. If you don't see a Buy Addons button, you may not have completed your pledge order yet. In which case, click on Select Reward.

If you haven't backed Pillars of Eternity and want to buy the beta, it's only available if you first back the game unfortunately. In this situation, head to the Backer Portal, click Create New Pledge, add a tier, and then add the beta (if you're buying a tier under $110.)

  12. Hi Nucleus42,

Looks like you haven't completed your pledge order yet. Head over to the Backer Portal (https://eternity.obsidian.net/backer), verify your pledge amounts look correct, and then click on the Select Reward button to begin.

If you choose the same tier and addons you selected during the Kickstarter, once you complete your pledge order, head over to the Products tab and it should be there waiting for you.

    Thanks!

    Darren
