  1. And I'd argue that creating a whole game system (DnD was being developed over the years and had feedback of thousands of players before the BG was even in the plans) with all the mechanics is a process which takes a lot of effort and can't be rushed. I believe that for the time of development and the size of the team, PoE mechanics are very solid and should simply be improved upon.

And yet Sawyer says in regards to crpg rule sets: pretty much all games get it wrong IMO. And there was a lot of feedback from players in the beta which was ignored because of ~feels~.

  2. Where in game does it ever indicate achievements, an external feature, exist as an internal system? The game doesn't ever have a percentage system.

Are you on Steam? The backer achievement does count for 100% Steam achievements.

Developers should have a golden rule for all achievements being achievable by all players regardless.  No time limit, backer, pre-order, promotion crap involved there at all.  Still have a pet for the backers, and a cloak for the Obsidian Order sure, but if you create an achievement for obtaining all pets or cloaks, don't include the promo pet or cloak in the achievement completion.

Blizzard have feats of strength achievements which a lot of people can't get. eg. Beta achievement for Diablo 3. Other games like World of Tanks have in game items like their beta tanks. Not sure if you can do a Feat of Strength achievement in Steam and not count to the 100%

  3. He wonders if she has a cloaca. It's only speculation. For all we know, she could be built like any other woman, just infertile. Well, she probably has feathers down there, which could be a problem... or quite the opposite. wink.png

As comfortable and soft as a duck down quilt.

I'd deal with it. Not "into it", but it's not a deal breaker.

And you could have an inventory slot for that egg she lays.

  4. If Pillars had romances in with the same characters that are available then I think it would have been creepy.

The least creepy option for straight males and gay females would be Pallegina, and she is portrayed as not really having a gender or at least believes she doesn't due to her culture.  The other two options are a married dwarf who wants to see her family again and so wouldn't make sense for her and a mentally unstable woman who I'm not sure has the capability to give consent and so would not be right.  Straight women and gay blokes have a better option in that they get Eder, but then who can say no to Eder?  He's a dude!  Duuuuuuude!  There's Aloth too, though you may get confused as to which of him you are with.  Kana too.  Durance, no, and I don't have to explain why.  Hirav would be like pedophilia.

But the most important thing I have to say is, NO TO ROMANCES!!!!  I would not want to see the female characters changed so that I could bone them, because they would need to be and it would ruin them.  **** off back to Bioware!

Doesn't Hiravius say Pallegina has a cloaca? I would scratch her off the list unless you're into that sort of thing. :x

  5. wait, I thought 1.04 was being put on the discs.. has this changed?

Yeah it is 1.04. Paradox needs to test the installers, do their QA, press the discs, package the goods, and finally send them out to everyone. Quite a few thousand I imagine. That may take some time. Meanwhile patch 1.05 comes out (and maybe 1.06 by the time everyone gets their discs) and will have to be downloaded anyway. This is what most of the backers wanted from the poll - to have the discs come out later. (I was not one of them)

Personally, I think the poll should have stated that if you weren't receiving a Collector Editions, then the boxed goods wouldn't go out like the CE's did and will be sent together after the game is released with the disc and a time frame will be given at a later stage. It was nearly two months after the poll (12th Feb) that it was clarified by Obsidian (10th Apr) that the discs wouldn't be sent until 1.04 (17th Apr) went live. And even then QA had to be done on the installers and discs.

  6. A completist is a collector who attempts to collect an example of every item in a particular field.  So it would seem to me the word is redundant as we all ready have a perfectly good word.

Oh I know. But you were asking and I was giving an answer where the word completionist may come from. It's an assumption on my part of course. I have no problem people using the word completionist even if the word doesn't exist in an official dictionary. I know what they mean.

  7. What about people who didn't know about the game until after pledging closed? And those who find the game six months from now? Those playing it five years from now? Screw them all cuz we got ours and don't give a s***?

Many preorder exclusives are "available to everybody". There is no significant difference between backer and preorder exclusives: You buy at a certain place at a certain time and you are rewarded for your support with a certain bonus. Both suck when that bonus is any kind of in-game content (even cosmetic items).

Here's another way to think about it: You are arguing to hurt some players by taking away something they want for the sake of players that don't even want that thing (see nearly every reply to this thread so far).

What about people who didn't know about the game from 35 years ago and missed out on getting all their achievements?

  8. In the patch notes it's written: "Draining Whip is now working as intended."

In the beta Draining whip is changed to "increases Focus gain by 33%"

It looks almost as if they were too embarassed to state it in the patch notes. This and reducing starting focus from 1/2 of max to 1/4 of max... I mean why go so f*cking hard? Why not 1/3?

Sawyer has a philosophy of either double it or cut it in half and that appears to have rubbed onto the development team. I believe that comes from Sid Meier. So the 50% focus has been halved to 25% in line with that reasoning. Maybe in the next patch, it will go up slightly. I agree with you that it didn't need such a drastic cut.

  9. "BG2 incorporates both SoA and Tob."  see, that ain't circular.  is repetitive.  you keep saying w/o supporting.  you see as self evident.  hiro didn't do homework.

BG2 does incorporate both SoA and ToB. Really Gromnir, not only you're being obtuse but you've supported this yourself by posting pictures and links supporting this very statement. Funny you say I'm being repetitive but then you admitted yourself in this thread that you're being repetitive.

'tis sad to see Gromnir go down the rabbit hole of madness with posting pictures and links showing BG2 incorporate both SoA and ToB and then argue against it.

  10. I don't understand why the game can't at least load ALL of a house at once so that the transition up and downstairs is seamless.

This has been brought up many times with feedback to Obsidian during the beta. Every location including going in and out of a house is a different map. Going into a house is similar to going to a new wilderness map or new city map (eg, travelling from Copperlane to Brackenbury). It's not like the IE games where you can have half your party outside and half inside a house because you can't split your party over two maps. And it's why you get exploration xp because you've now entered a new map. I find the design quite odd and they should have done the same as the IE games.

  11. bizarre.

stun noted that it were possible to buy bundles that included ToB.  lord knows we never disagreed that you could buy ToB in bundles.  the soooooo... yet another pointless observation from hiro?  4 in 1 collection?  well gosh, that means that they is selling you four Different titles.  heck, you included a bundle with totsc.  does that mean bg2 = bg2, tob, bg1 and totsc? to be a collection requires more than one, eh?  you funny.

stun said we would be hard pressed to buy a solitary bg2 product and within a couple minutes we found many examples o' bg2 solo products.   yutz.

    you are hopeless.

and again, the attempt to bundle a definition as well as the multiple products fails to have a relevant point.

    HA! Good Fun!

More noise from the master of evasiveness.

BG2 incorporates both SoA and Tob. But we know you are stoopid to understand this even though both SoA and ToB has Baldurs Gate II on title of box. And when people say there are high level abilities in BG2, you keep on saying there isn't even though the rest of the world knows it to be true. You're the one saying ToB isn't BG2. twit

    And speaking of definitions.

yutz n. An affluent, usually city-dwelling, professional in his or her 20s and 30s; a prosperous and ambitious young professional.

  12. am not sure what your point is, but we were not pressed particular hard

    HA! Good Fun!

    *groan*

Do you even check what you link to? I see a lot of complete collections but also ToB on its own!

Of course Gromnir's worst enemy is himself.

  13. "And you're being both circular and repetitive. Thanks for clearing that up."

again with you making statements w/o any kinda support.

this is ridiculous.  what is the point you were/are even trying to make?

did bg2 include have high-level abilities?  no, that were an enhancement added in the ToB expansion.  ToB were an optional expansion pack for bg2.  could one play ToB without bg2?  no?  could one play bg2 without ToB? yes. when Gromnir observed that the high level abilities were a ToB enhancement and not part o' the original bg2 offering, we were accurate.   your complete irrelevant observation adds noting and ain't even true.   given the context o' the discussion comparing bg2 to poe, your observation is actual more suspect.

it is our perhaps futile belief that you will eventual reach understanding, even if you refuse to admit.

    HA! Good Fun!

Did bg2 include have high-level abilities? Yes, it did.

Given the context that I was pointing out that ToB is part of BG2, then not only your argument is suspect, but is intellectually dishonest. Hiro was accurate with his observations and factual. Gromnir is being obtuse, evasive, circular, repetitive as well as being dishonest.

Perhaps in future Gromnir can accept facts, but at this stage Gromnir can't. Until that day, Gromnir is still on his playground roundabout. One day, you might join the rest of humanity in the concept known as reality.
