  1. When they were talking about how fast the kickstarter funding was increasing, I thought:

"It was love making that number go up. Love not only for IE games, but also for a lot of the games (flawed or not) Obsidian made through the years".

Also when they mentioned how the kickstarter financially saved the company, it's a weird feeling to think that, up to a certain and humble point, "we saved Obsidian".

  2. (...) I think that the foremost goal should be to fix issues, whether they're bugs or issues of balance, and there's some very real problems with the attribute system as it is right now. (...) The fact that it's a singleplayer game and not a multiplayer game is no excuse for poor game mechanics or mechanics that interact with eachother poorly.

I agree in that all issues should be fixed, but design issues should have been fixed during the design phase of development, or at least before release. I mean, if there are problems with attributes, ok, they must correct them, but if that's the case I'd prefer them being honest and delaying the game until they are fixed.

But of course they won't do that, for financial reasons mostly.

Meh. I guess I'll have to get over these slight disappointments if I want to play on release. Anyway, It's not as if every CRPG ever released was perfect at launch, right? :shrugz:

  3. (...)the change that I hope they will make won't reallly have any effect on your character's efficacy(...)

But if I make a tank by maximizing Perception and Resolve to maximize Deflection, and then they take the Deflection bonus out of Perception to put it at, let's say, Dexterity, the Deflection loss would affect the tanking potential of the character (although I couldn't say by what amount).

  4. At minute 25 in the video you say that you hope that the Deflection bonus of Perception gets changed back to an Accuracy bonus as it was in the past.

I don't really have an opinion about which is better, but I really really hope that Obsidan doesn't change the attributes once the game is released, because the character-ruining potential of that action on a 40+ hours savegame could be huge.
I hope they realize this is a singleplayer game (not a multiplayer MMO, MOBA or RTS that needs to be tweaked constantly) and focus on correcting bugs, not on changing main systems. They already had enough time to design the game, what is done is done.

  5.

Think of Hard as "core rules" like in BG.

That is my interpretation of the difficulty level, as Hard difficulty includes what I would call 'vanilla' encounters with unmodified creatures. Normal and Easy have less creatures and less or no elite creatures. This is my opinion on the difficulty settings based on the beta.

Thanks, I think I'll take a deep breath and try hard mode.

They also didn't have to turn around and spend the money we gave them on giving away free copies to others.

How do you know that the value of those copies is not in the marketing budget, and in that case, that such marketing budget is not solely covered by the publisher, that is, Paradox? That seems very probable to me, and in that case it's only logical that Paradox wants to get some ROI for their expenses.

And think about this: the fact that the embargo is lifted before the game comes out means that both Obsidian and Paradox are confident that the game is good. If there were no reviews, or even worse, if the embargo didn't lift until after the game was out, I would be quite worried about the final quality of the product.

Also, as far as I remember, something like an early release for backers was not mentioned anywhere in the kickstarter.

  7. That doesnt even bother me not to take this off topic..I can ignore the reviews an the watch now things..How ever whats with the 80 dollar champion package..A bit extreme..Hope backers get what is ever in that for free..We made this happen..

Since you're a backer, if you have confirmed your pledge in your account page, you can check the "Orders" section and if you click your order (if you have confirmed the pledge, the order should be there), you'll see a breakdown of everything you're gonna get, according to the amount of money you pledged back in the day.

For example, when I confirmed my pledge I got an order with a price of 80 $, and I can tell you it contains everything the steam royal edition has, and a couple more things. So backers are getting all the rewards that were included in their pledge, no worries about that.

  8. I agree, the game shouldn't be released early, specially since they are probably working in a day one patch, so the game itself is "dynamic" content (in the sense that it's gonna be updated).

However, I think the "static", non-spoiler content that won't be updated, specially lore products like the Collector's book and Almanac should have been released already to backers, at least in pdf version, in the products secion of our accounts. Because as far as I know all backers who opted for a physical edition will get pdf versions too anyway.

  9. One thing I'm curious about is this. If I've understood it correctly, if you buy a game from GOG and then get a new comp, you can install the game again on that comp, no need to pay for it again. Does this work if you switch from, say a Windows PC to a Mac as well? Haven't had the need to use GOG yet.

What GOG gives you after you buy the game is a download for an installer made by them (a single file). If a game is old, the installer install the needed emulator (dos emulator for example) automatically; sometimes old games are patched by them to work in newer system. The installer contains the whole game (no need to download anything more) and you can download it anytime you want, and install it in any computer you want; it's TOTALLY drm-free, it doesn't activate from the internet, you can burn it to a cd and it's no different to having a physical copy.

The thing with mac is, if the game has a mac version, they maybe have to make an installer for mac (a single dmg probably), and maybe they don't have experience in doing that kind of installation, but it probably is possible if they collaborate with the developer.

As GOG never have sold mac games, nobody knows if they will allow you to download a windows version and a mac version; in steam you can do this, they have "steam play" (you pay once, you can donwload windows version or mac version)

And about the OP request, I don't think they should give you two serial keys but instead one serial key should allow you to download wichever version you want.

I think that, if you are buying a license to use a software, you should be able to use that software in all the OS for wich the software is compatible.Blizzard entertainment, for example, has done this for years with their games (and many other kinds of commercial software sold trough Internet works the same way), and if Project Eternity releases in steam and is compatible with Windows and Mac, you will not have to pay for it twice, because it will be a "steamplay" title.

  10. I will like to listen and read to narration very much. Another thing I would like is that the writing style was similar to the one in Torment, where in the text boxes you could read not only dialogue, but short descriptions about the appearence of the character you are talking with, his or her gestures, what is he doing as he speaks with you, that kind of thing: I think it really adds to the fleshing of the NPC's.

  11. I can't believe that anybody that likes the tactical rpg's of old decides to cancel their pledge because of the game having mechanical ranged weapons or technology (how do you think a sword is made?).

In my opinion it's too nitpicking, the trees are not letting them see the forest. If you cancel, the next time you are reading the reviews about the new simplified combat, recycled story, choice lacking RPG, before starting to complain about the death of the good RPG's, remember that you had the oportunity of helping in the making of one of those good RPG's, and you let it pass because a minor detail.

Of course, everybody is free to put their money wherever they want, but I think their concept of fantasy is too tight.

  12. As long as they are not so advanced that they surpass the rest of the ranged weapons, I'm perfectly fine with guns being common in the game. Or, if they are more advanced than the rest, then they should be uncommon, or require a very specific set of skills to be used efficiently, kind of a prestige class weapon.

A XVII-XVIII century like level of technological advancement (but with magic, of course), it's perfectly fine with me. Also, if you are having a background with different races and cultures clashing, one of the variables that decides the results of that kind of conflicts is the technological advancement (not only in weaponry, but also in the production areas of society, the spreading of technology sometimes goes hand to hand with aculturation), sometimes accomplished trough circunstancial environmental advantages.

So, if the game depicts cultural clashing, variable levels of technology (and weapons) are logical to me; but of course they must not unbalance the gameplay.
