  1. The danger is, they either need to go full steampunk to make it work. Otherwise it will just look like the guns in World of Warcraft, which are silly and jar the gameplay experience because while you have some species with a medieval society, and others with almost science-fiction level technology. Mentioning WoW again as an example of how trying to create extremely diverse/unique regions all in the same game backfires, because nothing fits and the world feels disconnected.

What I mean is, in Arcanum there was technology like steam engines and gunpowder, but they explored the logical conclusion of that, industrialization was destroying forests, magic was becoming obsolete and clashing with modern society. In WoW there's no one saying "Well these gnomes have freakin helicopters and robots, and dwarves have rifles, and these are obviously superior technologies, so why hasn't the other cultures traded for these technologies or been conquered with them?"

So if the game has guns, what is the consequence of that on the whole world?

but in WOW technology and magic or on par, thats why they coexist in relative harmony, and a hunter with a bow does the same damage he does with a rifle ;)

you are a sad little man. all the obsidian games had romance in them, why is it so outrageous to assume that this one will as well?

Not all Obsidian games and they were bad in those too. And they probably had to include them because publishers wanted them.

h the evil publisher is at fault when a game has features i dont like, nevermind all the other fans that appreciate said feature and the devs who felt they wanted to include it

you need to realize that the world doesnt revolve around yourself

I think you're projecting and you should take your own advice. I never implied the world did. I've been saying it's Obsidian's choice and that they're not fans of them and it's pretty obvious they're pretty bad in general. You're just upset because you might not be getting your romances. There's always DA3. And if you can't wait for that, you can fire up the Witcher and look at your sex cards.

unlike you im not campaigning for the exclusion of features that a good portion (majority if this poll is to believed) of the fanbase enjoys because i personally hate them

the presence of romances (which is really only a subset of npc relations - do you dislike all of them?) doesnt affect you if you chose to ignore them, yet you want to deprive others of the pleasure. that is a sad attitude

  4. This is a RPG. Not a sex/social simulator for deviants who can't build a relationship in real life.

So instead we only focus on some hack and slay for people who can't get a good killing spree done in real life and need to compensate for missed army time?

This doesn't even make any sense. I play RPGs where I kill monsters because I can't kill humans in the army? Are you serious?

exactly, it doesnt. that was his whole point, to show you how ridiculous your argument was

  5. humans are a popular choice for a playable race because it allows players to easily identify with them so getting rid of humans entirely would be hard

however one could turn the usual human supremacy on its head and make them a minor subjugated species struggling against a seemingly almighty oppressor - this could be the aforementioned ilithid slavedrivers, or a favorite of mine, a race of evil sadisic overlords like the drow

  6. inner-party relationships are mandatoy if your aiming for a realistic and mature world however

think about it, a group of 4, 5, 6 (actually, how many willit be exactly?) out in the wilderness and dungeons for weeks and months all by themselves - theres bound to be romance and sex eventually, and resulting jealousy and rivalry. it would be nice however if it werent all focused on the PC. relationships should evolve naturally between all party members, and if the PC tarries too long he might find himself the odd man out without a partner, at which point he needs to slay or otherwise dispose of a competitor to claim one for himself which can result in many potentially interesting roleplaying opportunities

Thank god. Turn based combat would have turned me off the game immediately. RTwP is much more engaging and exciting.

same here. turned based makes sense for handhelds because of reduced cpu power, but since this will be a pc exclusive there is no reason to not go real time

I give you one reason: having a deep tactical combat like in X-Com, Jugged Alliance and Tactics Ogre (sacrilege, a console game :)!!!!)

baldurs gate and icewind dale also had good tactical combat while being real time with the added benefit of being more immersive. it depends more on the encounter design than what system you use

Not as deep as the games I mentioned (tactically speaking) . And, belive me, if you know all the balancing issues of AD&D (as I knew when I bought Baldur's Gate, having played AD&D for years), you can win 9 out 10 encountes using the same tactic. Slightly different story for IWD...

however this game will not be AD&D so that point is moot

obsidian have all the freedom to create their own system that is tailor made for RTWP and that offers the same or more depth than a turned based one

  9. dwarves and elves are pretty boring and overused but how about drow and their equivalent duargar dwarf counterpart? obviously they cant use these names as they belong to AD&D but they could use the same concepts

drow are very underused in rpgs. they featured prominently only in NWN underdark expansion and had some minor appearenes in other games so there is a vast potential there

and it would fit the mature tone that obsidian said they are aiming for
