  1.

Well, for the most part of the world, afternoon pacific time isn't "today" anymore but tomorrow, as in the 19th of August. (which for the working part of the backers means waiting another 24 hours from now)

And don't get me wrong, I don't mind waiting another day to play it. What I do mind is getting this publisher-style crap of "screw the rest of the world" from an indie dev that I supported, in part, to avoid this kind of behavior.

It's always tomorrow for somebody somewhere. Good luck surviving in the real world.

  2. Nah I'd rather my fighters and mages wittle down his health and make it a fight worth remembering.

Do you like watching sport games (if at all) where one side crushes the other in the first quarter, or a really-close game where it's anyone game? Risk can offer excitement and games should be exciting! Instadeath is good for the peons and really annoying level 1 enemies that you can't be bothered with.

No, I do not enjoy slowly whiting down some boss's bloated HP reserves, better it be done quickly. Give me my save or die.

  3. Well, we'll have to see how well it does in the marketplace. I agree that 3D TV is something of a gimmick, but 3D games are expected to be more immersive. (Just as stereo sound is more immersive than mono.) With a computer monitor you're closer to the display, so the 3D effect should be more engaging and cover more of your field of vision.

Yes, I mean look at how enormously successful 3DS has been.

    Dohoho.

  4. What if there is a middle road

WE ELITISTS DO NOT NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS!

    There can be no compromise!!11

There can be only war! WAR!

"Todd, what is best in life?"

"Riding on a horse killing monsters with your faithful love interest on your side in a pseudo European Middle Ages setting"

"WRONG! Vince, what is best in life?"

"To crush popamole, drive it's developers before you and hear the lamentation of the players who couldn't get through character generation! Good ****ing riddance!"

    "Good!"

  5. Why are people using this interview as some kind of announcement for no romances in PE? All it basically says is that Chris doesn't like writing romances, is everyone who enjoys experiencing romances supposed to just admit defeat and walk away?

I don't see anything here that indicates romances won't be in PE, just Chris stating he doesn't like them.

George can write them, problem solved.

Feel free to hope, the crushing disappointment will be even funnier that way.

  6. one thing that could make the game worse is if the inclusion of the Adventurers' Hall makes the devs slim down the number of "full" companions - say, 5 companions, and if you want more you can use the AH.

The whole point of the adventurer's hall was so that the player could - as an option - create character race/class combinations that the player won't see via the NPCs. Because there was no way they were going to do 66 companions.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think the OP is more asking the question of how the game will treat such mixed groups of companion and AH created: will the game treat the mercs as not being there at all? Will the game treat them as actual mercs or henchmen and not as actual members of the party (in dialogue that is, naturally they count towards party limits and the like)? When an NPC lists off the 'Heroes who saved the babe' will they be counted or be considered nothing more than hired thugs accompanying the heroes? I guess the essential question is what will the game consider AH characters as.

In which case the answer has already been posted - play BG in multiplayer mode.

No guarantee Obsidian would implement it that way, especially if the companions are more interactive. Maybe Obsidian will want to try a new way.

I suppose they could create "personality" types that align with the 5 companions and then give personality/class/race dialogue to the created party member so they're still somewhat responsive to gameplay events (if lacking in character related aspects). Or they could just create a small generic dialogue tree for created companions.

But I imagine that it'd be more like IWD if you have a party of created characters.

They could create more personality types and let you choose from them at character creation, Wiz8 style.

Of course we can only speculate, but it does not hurt to look at examples from the past.

  9. PlaneScape Torment didn't have conversation skills at all. But it had tags for truth/lie/bluff.

I know, but since they were not tied to skills they were there to set tone, not signify skill usage. All the dialogue choices tied to attributes were not tagged at all

Mostly because some people do not believe that you can use bluff that way at all.

You most certainly can. People have a way of assuming things. If you don't behave the way they expect you too, they assume they were wrong about you. In a fantasy setting it means that an old man with a stick can convince a bunch of bandits that he's actually a powerful wizard and some trainee with a sword, who has accidentally hit an arrow in flight, might pretend to be a great swordsman. It might even go on for quite a while depending on the perceptiveness of people you try to fool.

Let's just say I absolutely disagree with using bluff skill as it is to intimidate and leave it at that, because obviously we have no common ground on that one.

  10. I don't understand why some people consider this handholding. The point here is, that you may have the same answer four times with four different intentions, one could be

"I'm going to rip your head off!" - Bluff

"I'm going to rip your head off!" - Attack

"I'm going to rip your head off!" - Intimidation

"I'm going to rip your head off!" - Lie/Truth

Mostly because some people do not believe that you can use bluff that way at all.

And PS:T had no skill tags.

  11. Personally I don't like the Adventurer's guild at all. I by far prefer fleshed-out companions with a backstory, independent motivations and so on, even if they are not "optimized" like a player-created party would be.

This is because of the interaction, the dialogue and all the other details that made PS:T and BG a great game from my point of view, while games like IWD were just something I played through once and then put on the shelf.

Well since the Adventurer Hall is just an optional add on it needs not bother you, unless you have some kind of disorder forcing you to make use of all the game's features
