  1.

I'd rather espect a PoE 2 Kickstarter in the near future.

I'd back that. All the same, surely they don't have to use a kickstarter again? After the success of POE, someone should be willing to fund them...

I think KS will always be the choice No.1 since it ensures the IP remains with Obsidian. I'm just wondering how a campaign will end without the MCA joker (i'd rather have him make a game on his own than providing content for other projects).

  2. If you plan on using your Cipher's powers for buffs, debuffs and crowd control, leaving MIG at ten to increase DEX is a option, since the bonus damage of Soul Whil is not affected by MIG.

I was rather hoping to deal a lot of dmg with my cipher, maybe with a little cc. But for buffs/debuffs i intend to count on the companions. I guess Durance could be a good choice.

  3. To be honest, i don't really know yet how i want to play the cipher later since this will be my first real playthrough (first time i stoped after getting my stronhold). I definitively intended to built a ranged cipher, but whether i stick with bows or switch to guns, i don't know. Certainly guns seem much more interesting, so i guess i am aiming for that. But then, i thought that guns make only sense with a cipher when used as openers to create a large pool of focus, using them regularly during the fight never crossed my mind as i thought that bows will be better for that task due to the reload times of guns.

Sure, i could raise dex to 13 and lower mig, res, and int by one. But wouldn't that be another step towards mediocrity?

  4. With just 3 con, better be extremely careful; not only with your positioning but also with the distance to enemy spellcasters. Some fast cast ST-spells can one-shot you. (for example Ogre Druids just love snipping with Talons' Reach).

Also need to note that I've stumbled upon quite a few 15 dex and 17 per conversation checks. 17 mig, 6 con, 15 dex, 17 per, 18 int, 5 res could be a viable alternative.

Yes, that might be better. I'm just finding it hard to justify anything below 10 res, since it screams "weak-minded" and undetermined to me. I've already been one-shot too, by some black goo in the cave at the camp, so i also see the problem.

Anyway, i might then go with your suggestion but with 8 res and 3 con.

But i was also wondering which companion would be best to support Edér in his tank role?

  5. So, after leaving the game unfinished in my first attempt (right after release), i am now giving it another try. My goal is to beat it on PotD difficulty with a RP focused party. This means no (extreme) minmaxing for the main and no custom companions. So my question is how realistic this is (i am no expert on the fine details of the game mechanics).

As main character i picked a death godlike cipher with

    18 might,

    18 int,

    14 dex,

    15 per,

    10 res,

and only dumped con at 3 (it's a fragile, sickly fellow with a few unhealthy addictions).

I start with a bow, but probably will aim for guns later. Now i am not sure how viable this will be, given 15 per does not provide the best accuracy. Also the dumped con worries me a bit since Edér seems to be the only tank in the (early?) game. I definitely welcome a challenge, but don't want to rely on endless reloading, savescum, and hoping for favourable RNG, i.e. i only want the fun not the annoying stuff. So, do you think it's doable?

If there will be a chance for refunds, I'll gladly join in, considering it is the only way to fight against the insane minorities.

You must live in the same fantasy world as the twitter person who originally started this ****storm if you think demanding for refunds will help in any way.

Honestly though, people that demand refunds belong to a pretty extreme minority, but there's still a good point in it. Most companies only speak one single language, and that is money.

There is no good point in it AT ALL. First, there is simply NO legal reason for a refund AT ALL. Second, there is no moral reason for a refund AT ALL.

This is all just made up bull****, constantly pushed by some people (who are indeed a extreme minority, but a painfully mouthy one) who are either completely ignorant of simple facts or just fail to understand the same simple facts.

Again, Much Ado About Nothing. Literally nothing.

Well, i agree with you partly. The moral reason is that the decision marks the author of the poem as a misogynistic transphobic ***hole, or at least it supports the positon of those people that attack him falsely(!!!) with such accusations without defendig him against such accusations. This is the only part that makes me disappointed with Obsidian.

  7. Guys, Firedorn is cool with it.

Everyone wins, one side gets a "problematic" piece of content out and the other side gets a middle finger to those offended immortalized in the text.

Ok, his statement changes the picture. They asked him, it was his decision (i'd most likely did the same he did). In that case i don't understand why they couldn't just say so in the update. The update reads as if they actually found this joke offensive.

I have yet to see how this is transphobic. Apparently buzzwords alone are enough to make a case now.

Pretty much just allude to anything even remotely to do with trans-anything in any manner other than saying it's awesome/good/fine, and some folks will go out their way to be insulted and accuse others of 'transphobia'. The really bad thing is that we've reached a point in our society where such asinine things are not only given an ear, but rule the day.

Yes, but in this limerick, the dude kill's himself because he got laid! Think about this! He obviously enjoyed this act sufficiently, otherwise there'd be no "reason" to be ashamed (from his perspective!). Instead of changing his mind, be kills himself. How does this reflect badly on trans and not on intolerant people. Also the extremists' demand "KILL ALL MEN" seem very d'accord with this limerick to me...

  9. This is an awkward discussion. So there was a guy that committed suicide because he accidentally had intercourse with a man. Well, i pity him. I don't see how one could be offended by this, i really don't. But now reading that JS wants to remove this because radical extremists post radical things on twitter, that's disappointing! Come on, i didn't throw money at you to get a 100% ueber-PC, clean game! Really Josh, i expected that you stand up for the backer that contributed this!

    ...groan...Obsidian.

First of all, thanks for an awesome game.  Well worth the wait from the time of the kickstarter!  Seriously, how awesome is it to be playing an IE-style game again, but updated for today?  How great is it to be running around at night with a torch?  What great visuals!...and fighting with one?  Yeah.

The sign of a great game for me?  Waking up with a "hangover"...ie. waiting until the kids have gone to bed so I can finally sit down at the computer to play a game, and realising it's 3am and I'd really better go get some sleep before the sun starts coming up.  Groaning because I'm tired, and realising I'll probably do the same thing again tomorrow!  And looking forward to it!

Curse y...I mean Bless you, Obsidian!

    Oh, that sound familiar!

  11.

I'm likely guessing here - but maybe it will make our non-English speaking comrades feel better - early on in the game a lot of the characters don't speak proper English either - and perhaps attempts were made to carry this over into other languages.  Or maybe it made the work of translation, within the spirit of the character itself, much more difficult.

I don't believe that's the issue here. Many times you realize it's poor translation because it doesn't mean anything, but if you try to translate it backwards to english, you get it. As if they had translated "it's raining cats and dogs" word by word. In french you'd be like "uh ?", but then you get it.

I have to admit it breaks the awesome athmosphere of the game sometimes, although I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker for me. I certainly wish the translation was a little bit better, but it's not a total mess either, and I've been waiting 15 years for Baldu's Gate 3 so I'm grateful as sh*t.

Hmm, if you are able to translate the text back to english, then there is no real point in playing the translated version in the fist place, right? ;)

  12. I feel exactly opposite. For me voice acting often ruins the game, because typically it's rather badly acted. The main cast is good sometimes (Bioware does a good job) but the rest is usually repetitive  (always the same actors for different characters) and sometimes rather cheesy. If you take away the body expressions you see in a AAA 3D game there is not much left to express nuances. In a 2D game like this text it the better option imo, you have dialogue and descriptions, the imagination does the rest.
