  1. Technically, from a purely economic point of view, it's a bad idea. You've basically paid steam for credit, with no real benefit to you. That money sitting in a savings account has the potential to earn you a (small) return on investment. Given that it's only $25 and you have difficulty saving, it's not a big deal, but realistically all you've done is given Valve a 0% interest loan and cost yourself the opportunity to accrue interest.

If it's only a few days, it's a wash, as you'll accrue about 0 interest in that time. ;)

  2. I've had Origin encountered an error whilst updating itself. Then forced me to reinstall. I had 80GB of games at the time. It would not recognize any of them. I ended up having to redownload everything.

Origin is so incredibly buggy and unstable it only works when it wants to. Just like everything EA does.

Again, my experience has been different. I've had Origin installed for a couple years and had no issues whatsoever with it. Not trying to say you didn't have problems, you obviously have, and so have many others. I was just pointing out that everyone has different experiences with software. Steam, for me, has been buggier than Origin (although, to be fair, I've not had any really major problems with Steam either).

  3. I definitely prefer Steam to Origin and UPlay, though.  Most games work fine offline in Steam, and when online, I haven't seen the time-out related crashes during loading screens that Origin and Uplay games seem to suffer.

My experience has been different. Surprisingly, I find that Origin 'just works'. I've had no issues with it whatsoever. Steam hasn't been terrible for me, but I've had a few issues with offline mode and I loathe the forced game updates.

  4. . I bought it and I own it.

You do realize that you don't 'own' games you buy on GOG either, right? The difference being that GOG has no ability to block access to your games if you backup your game installers. Which is why I like DRM-free as well. But no matter what platform you buy your software on, you don't actually own it. You just own a license to play/use it. I understand this is being pedantic, but the 'ownership' argument against Steam is misguided.

  5. Origins was a great game. Maybe even a bit better than Pillars. It was a bit more polished. But pillars is also awesome and has so much potential.

DA 2 was garbage and i didnt even bother but it sounds like DA 3 was more of the same crap.

Original Sin I thought was buggy and weird. I didnt enjoy checking 200 vases and picking up random garbage that I had no idea what it was used for. When I got to the first city and started talking to the NPCs i started to dislike the game even more. I found it to be very weird, stupid and confusing.

Wasteland 2 was terrible. But Im curious to check out the game of the year edition when it comes out. It sounds like they have been working hard to make it into a game worth playing.

I always find peoples' opinions interesting. I loved DA:O, liked Divinity:Original Sin a lot, and thought Wasteland 2 was fantastic (I played through to the end 3 times, to the end of Arizona 6 times, and part way through California 3 times - all in rapid succession). Sadly, I found Pillars to be just decidedly average. There were some great aspects to it, some really crap aspects, and it left me with an overall 'meh' impression. I don't regret backing it, and would back another Obs kickstarter in a heartbeat (but not at the same pledge level), but I did not find it came close to my expectations. I thought Wasteland 2 was far superior.

  6. I was honestly thinking that I would get it if it was 10$ or less, because that's how much the old Infinity Engine games for on GOG.

Call me crazy, but doesn't 15$ sound rather steep for what they're offering? I mean, it isn't exactly Mask of The Betrayer...

MotB was, if memory serves, 30 bucks when it was released. Not sure why you'd think this expansion should be the same price as a much older game offered on GOG. Note that the EE of the IE games sell for 20 bucks on GOG, which would be a slightly more fair comparison, although still off the mark, IMO

  7. Whaddayano? I thought this thread would devolve into the usual MP backbiting bitterness and rancor, but it's pretty level headed. I, for one, understood your position, R.Alexander. I think most of the 'anti-multiplayer' crowd, which includes me, would be happy to have it included if we weren't worried that it would do one of two things:

    1. use resources. Really, I would want even trivial resources to go to enhancing the SP game in any way possible before going toward MP

and, even more important to my mind,

    2. change the nature of the game. I don't want my single player game to accommodate multiplayer utility in any way at all.

With all that said, I won't be one of the bomb throwers if Obsidz decides to include MP in the next game. I'd figure the other side will merely have come out on top on that issue, but it would certainly cause me concern.

Yeah, if it were designed with multiplayer from the get-go that would be one thing, but to 'cobble' it in afterward (as Wanderon noted) would not be ideal, IMO.

  8. I don't understand why people who backed/support a game which used Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, games that had multiplayer, as its main draw be so against mp in PoE. I don't personally care if it has it or not, but I just don't understand why some seem so against it.

As its 'main draw'? I'll admit, if they added multiplayer a la BG/BG2/IWD?IWD2, it wouldn't bother me (although I'd never use it). But not sure I agree it was the main draw of the old IE games.

  9. ok ive been backing my saves and just a lil ago i saved 3 times and a autosave and quicksave and it saved em.....i exited the game and went to back em and again theres only 1 named save and the autosave and quick save.....if no one else is having this problem i wonder why i am.

Two things (and forgive me, I know these may be stupid questions, but just to cover the bases):

    1) Are you using the same name for the saves? Perhaps that causing an issue if you are.

    2) You're not overwriting the old save each time you save, are you?

Again, sorry for the questions, but sometimes it's the simplest things that we overlook.

  10. Right. Prone just means "lying on the ground." If drakes and such were immune to Prone, that would preclude the image of a fighter leaping into the air and smashing them into the ground with a single blow, as well as elegant spells like Call to Slumber. That would make the game less awesome.

If the price of being awesome is that I have to assume that Slicken coats a Drake's wings, making them unable to gain lift, and that makes the game even more awesome ... awesome.

Well, Obs could always just add an AWESOME button in one of the patches... :p

  11. Couldn't agree more. I played NWN back when when it was released and I think I dropped it during the first act. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give it another try, this time I did manage to beat the first act but dropped the game nevertheless - it's just plain boring. The OC simply fails to immerse. Also, Waterdhavian creatures, aaargh.

I never had a nostalgia towards BG1 or BG2 as I never played any of them in late 90's but I admit that playing BG1 on my tablet (sic) brought me more enjoyment than NWN.

Looking forward to playing BG2 and PoE (waiting for the 2.0 patch actually). In the meantime... doing the third playthrough of DA: Origins.

Sorry for my english. Also, first post, yay.

Welcome, but... why are you apologizing for your English? It's perfectly fine (better than many, actually).

  12.

Hell, you're allowed to have fond memories of things you think are bad.

Yeah, this is kind of where I fall on NWN. I played through the original campaign twice and had a few partial runs as well. But it was decidedly not a great campaign. But once I discovered some of the community-made modules (and the odd server), boy did that elevate the game's status in my eyes.

Good picks on the modules, BTW (although I'm not familiar with Pig Farmer). Hell, between your post and Grom appearing on here, I feel like I may have to fire up the game again.
