Sinven

So I got the Shrink Ray and put it on Ellie but when she fires her gun it still shows her using her regular gun and nothing gets shrunk. Is this a bug or do these science weapons not work on companions or what?

I guess this is not a bug or still hasn't been fixed? I turned in all 3 and still have to pay 10k? Seems like a bug or just poorly worded. I even respec'd to get 86 persuasion so I could see if that persuasion check would grant me the nav key but nope.
