  1. Watching the footage of The Outer Worlds that has been made available so far, I can't help but notice that a lot of the text is very tiny. Now, when playing close to a PC monitor, that is often not a problem, but there are a lot of situations where it might be (visual impairments, sitting away from a TV, etc.)

Other elements that also seem rather small include the icons for limb damage over enemies' heads, though that is more understandable, given that the developers probably don't want the UI to be too cluttered.

Obsidian has been good about providing options for font scaling recently, with both Pillars of Eternity games and Tyranny offering scaling up to 130% of the original size, but this game is developed by a different team and on different technology, so the presence of such an option is not a given. Any word form Obsidian about this?

  2.

Dexterity granting additional standard attacks would violate one of the design goals for Attributes in PoE, which is to avoid hard breakpoints. If Dexterity granted additional attacks there would only be a few values of Dex where your number of attacks actually changed, and setting Dex to any other value would be a newb-trap.

You are completely correct here and I agree that, ideally, breakpoints should be avoided. However, in practice, they already exist in turn-based mode, so I guess it wouldn't be that big of a deal for me personally. A solution that removes this "quirk" of turn-based mode would be best, but I also understand that to some degree certain elements of the design of the game won't be translated perfectly to a late addition to the game core gameplay like this.

Now, if the game was designed from the beginning with the idea of supporting the two modes of play concurrently, I'd be more critical, but it is what it is and I'm already surprised turn-based works as well as it does.

  3. While I do agree that there are problems with the current Initiative system, a lot of this feedback IMO fails to take into account the downsides of having full new turns available to a character. Getting a new chance to act would be far more powerful than in RTwP, as you get effectively more Stride, more Cast or Standard Actions (you technically get a lot of those in RTwP, but it's very hard to micro them effectively so the action economy isn't as lopsided in practice), etc.

I still agree that this is at least something worth considering for the devs, but I expect that it would be toned down in some form from RTwP. Bit surprised that Dexterity doesn't give additional standard attacks during a turn tho'.

  4. I do think it is odd that god's can't track eothas by themselves, as you so it via adra pillars - something gods should have access to, no?

It's hard to get a grip of how Adra is exactly connected to the metaphysical realms right now, but as far as I'm given to understand, the Gods have no access to the In-Between, just the Beyond and, to some small degree, the Here. In one of the endings for the Forgotten Sanctum, Wael regains their body and the ability to see the In-Between, which makes me think the Gods had that ability at one point, but that's probably for another thread/conversation.

  5. I know that right now the developers are likely busy with balance adjustments for turn-based and bug fixes, but I hope that, before Turn-based goes out of Beta, the differences between Real Time with Pause and Turn-based will be extensively tutorialized in-game. Right now the tutorials and Cyclopedia entries still feel a little lacking.

Good luck with the balancing work! I imagine translating the mechanics from one system to the other wasn't easy.

  6. It's clearly some kind of hook for a hypothetical future installment of the franchise, and I don't think there is any hint as to their identity in Deadfire. I personally don't think it makes much sense for Woedica to abscond her body/leave it behind, it doesn't fit her characterization and I feel like her body *would* have been involved in her plans to take control of the pantheon and Eora as a whole. Eothas is also an unlikely candidate, both because of storytelling economy (what would be the point of revealing Eothas had his body hidden somewhere in the world after he died and used a statue of Luminous Adra anyawy?) and characterization (he seems to genuinely hold kithkind* in high regard and would probably consider his body to be a menace if left unsupervised).

Beyond that, it really could be any of the gods.

    * No in-game source uses that euphemism, but I just like it, lol.

  7. Given this thread is already under the attention of the devs, I was wondering if part of the problem with combat pacing in Turn-based isn't due to the amount of misses? Even with a relatively generous Graze-to-Crit range with basic attack resolution, misses still feel very prominent and feel very unsatisfying in turn-based. There simply is a lot more stress and focus put on every single attack and spell.

I don't know what the best solution to this is, and what is even possible behind the scenes. Adding a flat Accuracy bonus in Turn-based Mode is probably not the best solution because it would make Crits more likely too, but perhaps the Miss range could be narrowed? Also health pools should probably be smaller in Turn-based too, just so that encounters end more quickly. I don't know, I'm sure the system designers and developers can think of better solutions than me, given my only experience with game development has been toying around with Twine, but hopefully the pacing problems of the current implementation of Turn-Based Mode are at least ameliorated before it gets out of Beta.

  8. Description:

Cannot complete the A Shout in the Dark quest because Tayn's dialogue has no option to inform him of the fact that my character used his scroll to free the prisoners.

Steps to Reproduce the Issue (specifically, how I encountered the issue):

    1. Talk about the prisoners' problem with Tayn and receive his scroll.

    2. Talk with Llengrath and receive the second scroll.

    3. Defeat the Memory Hoarder, encounter the Apparatus, receive the egg from it.

    4. Save Bekarna

    5. Use Tayn's scroll with the Apparatus.

    6. Complete the DLC's main quest by defeating the Oracle of Wael (I chose to let Wael's body die)

    7. Go back to Tayn and trigger his DLC ending conversation.

    8. Have another conversation with Tayn, all options will be greyed out and no new option to complete the quest will appear.

I will note that, in spite of this problem, I still received the correct ending slide for this quest solution.
