  1. Hi - and a tech topic! :)

I've some serious stability issues with Alpha Protocol. I start the game and everything runs just okay, after a while (random positions) the game freezes - then, about 20-45 seconds after it continues (fast forwarding the missed animations while the character talked). You can play normally, then freezes again and it continues like this. Of course, the intervals between the freezes is random: sometimes 1 sec, other times 30 sec, but short periods.

Other times, instead of freezing the screen display... odd textures. Screenshot link:

That made me quit the game, and the desktop looked like a mess too: (I didn't quit AP this time but I had to be sure to capture the moment). Usually, killing the game works just fine and the desktop remains normal.

It's having all these strange dots. The "dots issue" happens in World of Warcraft too after a few minutes of playtime. As always, my system and drivers are up-to-date. The manual says Windows 7 is not supported but "Readme" through the launcher does so. . .

    SYSTEM:

    MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+

    4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 376MHz

    ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A78-EM (AM2)

    1024MB GeForce GTS 250 @ 1680x1050

  2. SO WE WAIT FOR YOU IDIOTS TO GET THE GAME??? so short sighted on behalf of the forum staff

I think the important part was that Sega is supposed to handle support, not Obsidian.

Head over to their forums, and by all means, if there's no support you can make a big stink.

ok so what your saying is that publishers provide support over developers??? hmm you are a true noob

The publishers always handle that by default. They also decide if/when to make patches. Of course, it is possible for the publishers to ask the developers help out or handle the support. It's the publishers' game. They decide what to do.

    The developers develop.

The publishers take care of the rest.

  3. so many issues (mainly PC) and the mods cannot even create a forum/thread dedicated to tech issues??? c'mon i mean its not hard???

The game is not "released yet". Obsidian is a studio from the States, the release date there is the 1st of June - 28th of May in Europe. Although, it might be done on purpose too as Sega is supposed to be handling the support.

  4. I just got through the customization part, and my experience has been horrible so far! The game doesn't run smooth at all, screen lockups/freezes etc, two BSODs, and then after some seconds it continues. My computer is more than capable enough to handle it.

The animations are all funky sometimes, AI is idiotic, tutorial level a... Took me 30 minutes or more to get through the computer-hack part - as it was slow to navigate down to the thing and it was confusing and hard. The graphics looks like an old PS2 game.

But to the good parts: lines and voice over so far, and the lines I have yet to experienced (before a freeze - I lose focus when one comes. Forgot what they were saying the minute before).

The choices are all cool to smash down or open a door, the talent system is awesome, that's how RPGs talent system should work, the dialogue system is... ok I guess, you have to pick almost before you have heard the dialogue. Not a second to think what they just said. The music is interesting, sets the mood fine!

This, better get some heavy patches. It feels like playing a beta. Despite all of this, I'll continue to play and finish the game - then I'll post a review or something.

It's a strange thing the game is not Windows 7 ready. The manual says XP or Vista. . .

    - Hacking Mini game (ouch my eyes)

Good thing to know I'm not alone :shifty:

  5. I saw some ads on gametrailers too.

    Same!

I looked around on some other sites too - found three main categorizes of user comments:

    * Looks like (add another game here)

    * AI/Graphic is bad

    * Interesting... I'll keep an eye on this.

I, personally, find this interesting, and good for AP - a well developed story/characters/gameplay will get you further than look in the long run. Not to slash Bioware, but I didn't find it (ME) interesting at all - it was basically the KotOR story in another universe - however, it had the look (and a decent story) so people got it.

Anyway, my point is that if the story is good enough (no negative comments about it so far) then it will break anyway! A good twist will get your game far!

Um... Does AP have a twist?

  6. Hello there!

I'm not sure if this thread is placed in the right section, if not, then excuse me. I have a few questions about how and when the developers are paid. So here they are:

    1) When are the developers paid? After/before/during or meanwhile the development?

    2) If a game is cancelled, does the developers lose anything on it, like money? Or is it all on the publishers?

    3) How much does a daily game cost?

    4) Last, but not least - how much of the profit goes to the developers? (related to question #2)

I hope some of you can clear this up for me,

    thanks in advance!

  7. How can they complain about Kreia?! She's one of the best (if not the best) character in the gaming industry, I call her the: "mysterious witch" :shifty: I really enjoyed that you swayed away from the "typical" Star Wars telling, and gave the villains something more than power and control to fight for.

It's not truly Star Wars, it's just happens to take place in it's galaxy - I think it's a very interesting idea

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Chris. Great interview!

*throws a cookie at Llyr too*

  8. Yeah, sorry for this clumsy intro - but a podcast would do great, or a company blog that you talked about. It could be learning experience and changes in the company from the start until now, what you guys want to in the future (what kind of games...), what will happen to gaming industry.

It really doesn't matter what you talk about, I think it will be a fun thing both for the audience and for you. You could also improve your relation to the community (even though it's already great) by answering fan questions in the podcasts >_<

  9. I really hope the rumors are incorrect, because this is one of the most interesting games under development at the moment. Since Obsidian are different from other developers, looking after their games I think they will do a god job on that - I won't be disappointing, I'm sure of it.

But the question is... will it survive?

I hope we will see an official confirmation on this soon!

  10. Hmm, first of all I want to tell you that my computer runs kotor 2 just smoothly. I've tried it before without any issues, haven't changed anything. But last week I re-installed WinXP (kotor 2 too) and now all these black figures just appears, the character is all black.

    http://s187.photobucket.com/albums/x291/Tp...nt=untitled.jpg

It comes and goes, but it's really annoying! It could appear at random to be active like 3 minutes, and then disappear and everything is normal then reappear again.

EDIT: I can see the pixels in Obsidianslogo too... And yes, I've the latest patch. The menu (Main menu) is flickering too, and sometimes when the character becomes black he gets stuck.
