  1. The character does not have amnesia, though he/she may be a bit groggy after coming to.

Here is the deal, the 'character' knows who they are, it is *YOU* the player that doesn't know who the 'character' is.  Make sense?  Didn't think so.

When you pick up a brand new book to read, assuming the main character doesn't actually have amnesia, how much do you know about the character at page 1?  Probably not a whole lot.  Does this mean the character has amnesia?  No.

    Interesting. I understood that.

Does this mean that it will be...possible...to "affect" 'your' 'character''s past with choices in the game? Will we at least learn where our 'character' is from, etc?

    Oooh. The suspense is...suspenseful.

  2. I want the game to shock me like I was shocked in Torment so many times.

Unfortunetly for me, I'm not going to spend $199 for an Xbox just to suppot Gate's reign of terror. Pity.

Hype+Pictures+neatness=Excellent advertising. Like we're seeing with Atris in the polls. Not much speculation is done over MSG because, well, he's in a mask.

And about the game site spoilers. I'm planning to become a hermit until it comes out (for PC). Just like Jolee, except he wasn't anticipating KOTOR 2. :(

Seriously. There's nothing like a break into reality while everyone on the 'net is going "OMGKOTOR2GIMMIEGIMMIEGIMMIENOWNOWNOWNOWNOW" on December fourth.

[Edit] The other white robed jedi. Or the PC.

  3. Please read what Adria has requested regarding politeness.

What's so...distressing...to me is the fact that we're overlooking the obvious. There's going to be a ton of combinations in which to play TSL, some of which certainly won't be mentioned. We can hear one this and then play through on Febuary sixth and go, "Hey, that's different. X lied to me! X told me that Carth doesn't show up!"

Maybe we'll get the option to play a shadow jedi. Mmm. Tastes like mom's home cookin'.

Anyways, I think I've gotten over this. Game companys have lied before, but it's never the fault of the Developer. They're not the ones who set times except for milestones.

I suggest that we should leave this to spam on LA's board, and not here. I don't think Obsidian deserves this anymore.

I don't really think this is spam.

Most people are trying to remain somewhat civil. My comments might have been out of line, but that happens when a company doesn't give any reasons for why it did what it did.

But overall, I think this thread is fine as long as it remains civil.

Adria has had to edit this thread a number of times. What I said in the first sentence was directed to a post that didn't truly belong here. It was rude and offensive to any poor LA people wandering the Obsidian board.

We will have to live with it. We did the first time around, and we can the second time. Sure, it's a pity, but life is a smattering of disappointments and you're only a reflection of how well you can adapt to them.

(I must admit however, I'm amused to petition has shown up on that site. . .is it petitions online? Hmm.)

  4. PC requires more work than Xbox. Usually PC ends up being slightly less clunky and better done. Also, the PC version will include different languages and be able to set itself to your computer's configurations. They may also be trying to make it easier for SP2ers.

Obsidian's just doing their best. Do try to get over it, it's just a game. Not the end of the world, but a game.

And there's always KOTNR or KOTOR 3. Then we can look forward to either same time or more suggested information/lies. Take your pick.

  6. The Logic of the Hawk says:

"Well, Akari says the same team is working on it at the same time. That means that when Xbox is done, PC will be "done" - the most logical solutions for this are:

    1. Xbox games cost more than PC games

I have seen Xbox games for low amounts. . .after they have been out for a while. Around my part of the US, newly released Xbox games cost more than DOOM 3 (54.99 at target)

    2. Bribes!

LEC has been bribed by Bill Gates, who just wants to make money.

    3. ALIENS!

Aliens landed and removed LucasArt's publisher-guy's brains. They don't realize that they'd make more money than their limbs are worth if both were released at the same time.

    4. We luv da PC gamerz, lez giv dem all extwas

Really, does anything need to be said? Pfft. The only reason this would be happening was so all the KOTOR Xbox gamers would pay the $20(?) for Xbox live to get some downloadable content.

    5. They're playing us for the fools we are.

Even multi-millionaires like Lucas needs laughs.

    6. KOTOR is made to be a console game

KOTOR is a game that was designed for Xbox. Mostly Xbox. PC is only secondary because, well, because we're outdated."

I'd love to see Xbox pushed back, or PC brought forward. If they want to give us extras, they may as well give them to us at the same time. That way Xboxers won't have to complain about PCers getting things before they did.

I'm sorry if anyone found this post offensive. I find the fact that we've been lied to offensive.

I'm sorry Akari and Obsidian and all the other people out there who've been putting their blood and sweat into this game. It's not fair for us to complain, and it isn't your guys fault. I hope you'll continue to look on us with some favour in your eyes, even though we are really horrible people for complaining on your boards - even though it isn't your fault. Once more. I'm sorry. You're all great people.

  7. I read the first 3 pages of this thread, then gave up. Heheh.

Maybe, at least, we PC gamers will get a more polished version of the game with more features and better graphics? LArts seems to think that the money is with consoles, but maybe they're wrong? If we showed them the fact that PC gamers buy more - much more - they may think twice about releasing it so late next time.

I must admit, however, that I feel like my dreams have been crushed by those LA publishers. I know it's not Obsidian's fault, they're doing everything they can to get the game to us as quick as possible, and make it a better play than KOTOR. We can't blame it on them even if we wanted to.

I hope for the extended wait we'll get a few nice things. Maybe a Yavin Spacestation. :) Maybe the ability to put your hood up/down from the inventory screen (without an animation!), maybe we'll get something LucasArts just won't give to the Xbox gamers. Maybe we'll get less bugs and a WinXP SP2 compatability (Which, considering the errors you get in KOTOR with SP2 would be a great touch.) Maybe they'll make it so the game runs faster for those of us with one year old computers and no upgrades. Maybe we'll get more options for our character, more customization. Maybe we'll get...

Anyway, it doesn't matter. It'll come out in time. I think I can wait. Until...oh, a lovely nine months to get KOTOR 2. Yes, of course. Wait. Just 13 more months. . .13 more months. . .Or is it 14? Oh, my math skills are bad when I'm so sad.

The only question is, will the rest of the PC community wait idly by? Huh. Maybe we'll riot. Huzzah. Riot.

  8. While I'm not too fond of Hades'...anger towards the game, he does have a good point.

We should be able to play a non-forcer. Though I really think that for story purposes it's okay, I'd still like to be something simple. Maybe a frog, yeah.

    At least frogs can jump.

  9. ... I knew nothing about it, took $40.00 out of my bank account and asked my...friend...to loan me $10. In the end I got the $10 by selling my soul to her ...

By replacing "soul" with "body" this post becames far better.

    So...so it does. Amazing.

Perhaps I need to declare my gender and sexuality in my signature? Then you'd stop thinking that.

And that truly is a lovely signature of your own you have there.

[edit]Rereading what you write is your minds way of telling you when to shut up. I'm female and I don't swing that way, thank you very much.[/edit]

  10. Mucha Shaka Paka. The fact that it ment so much was simply amazing.

The conversation between Mission and Bastila regarding the use of powers was a classic. As was having Bastila going on a rant at me becuase I told her that picking on her was fun.

And yet, I think the KOTOR classic that made you stop and go "ooooo" and realize what was going on on Dantooine (actually before, but hey!) would be:

"What better a weapon than to turn an enemy to your cause?"

When that was in the cutscene for being Revan, I laughed so hard. Not only was it forseeable (they throw the little hints on loading screens to make you feel stupid) but it was so horribly ironic. Like both sides were in an epic battle of tug and war over Revan.

  11. I'd heard excellent things about the game [KOTOR Uno, the curse of the black pearl] from a forum that I lurked. I knew nothing about it, took $40.00 out of my bank account and asked my...friend...to loan me $10. In the end I got the $10 by selling my soul to her (and she wanted me to do some work for her, I agreed because I'm poor.)

I wan't particulatrly fond of Bioware's previous title, NWN, except for the multiplayer. And my druid. Mmm. Druids.

KOTOR was intriguing. A game where I could be something cooler than Kyle Katarn, not suck like JA, and where I could make my own choices? It was like Star Trek had gotten an RPG made, but slightly bitterer. And crunchy. It kinda tasted like cottage cheese.

And why am I on this forum? The polite, correct reply would be "Why not?". but alas I am neither. I started lurking here. . .January or Febuaryish? Back when the site was...kinda... new, and back when this project was speculated on. I regestered to answer one question. Unfortunetly, you people are more addictive than smoking cigs. Less deadly, though. I hope.

[edit]Oh yes. I've liked everything Star Wars except for the NT. That just sucks.[/edit]

  12. While we only know about very few planets in the universe, currently...I suppose you must be right. After all, the universe is a huge place.

Earth is in a small band of the "habitable zone", a zone where it's not too hot, not too cold, but juuuuuust right. We are in balance for the time being. When something shifts out of balance, like, for example, Uranus or Neptune (I forget which one switches around, I believe it is the former), and slowly drifts away, we'll slowly freeze.

However, we can alter our own balance, and probably will in the future.

Everything is connected. We're not a mistake, but we're not intended. We just are.

There is an equation, I forget what it's called, but it's an equation to find a number of habitable places in the MWG. The number when you plug everything in is shockingly high.

You answer? We might be alone, we might not. But one thing is for certain: in this large freaky universe there's porbably at least another lifeform on another planet out there. It may be like the little "stick-bacteria-thingies" we found on Mars (Mars Rock ALH 84001 had a fossil with a little...thing...inside of it.), or it could be something radically different.

Earth is a perfect balance of the relatively small gravity field. Sorry. Microgravity is fun, yes, but it might not be fun when something is so far gone that it takes us with it.

We should attempt to get back on topic before this is moved to way off topic, no?

  13. Yes, but Pokemon is a more straightforeward attempt to exploit american capitalism. Cards, books, toys, movies...Happy meals, angry meals, constipation meals, Burger King Things, etc. It's like the difference between American Yu-Gi-Oh and Japaneese Yu-Gi-Oh which, apparently, has next to nothing to do with cards.

Capitalism can be an evil or good all by itself. Analyzing is the key.

  14. In movies good always triumphs over evil. Sucks, don't it? But then again, in movies you have "absolute good" and "absolute evil", one of those little annoying stereotypes that we saw in KOTOR, and probably in KOTOR 2.

In "reality" (this is Star Wars universe speakin'), it would depend on many factors. How many Jedi/Sith? Where is the battle taking place? How long have they trained? Ambush? Previous battle experience? Stamina? Intelligence - How often do they feint out? Why are they fighting - there's no power greater than a good cause?

Take a look at the law of physics. Two forces excerting the equal ammount of force (haha! bad joke!) leads into utter neutrality. Neither side moves, both is in balance and harmony with one another, even as they push against each other. When one is out of balance, another force comes along to bring balance back. (Consider the OT and the NT. The whole new theme of Star Wars is that the jedi have too much power and someone comes along to whack 'em into place.)

So really, it just depends on your opinion and personal bias.

(Are we talking red shirts from Kirk's days or the new "Captain/Commander" Red Shirts?)

  15. Mission is 13-14 (I've heard both.). "much older" suggests Bastila being at most 17 or 18. (I'd say she's 16, but. . .) Then again, Bastila's mature female voice puts us off. She can't be 14, or even 15. The perfect age setting for her would be 17, I'd say.

For a second, compare NOLF and KOTOR. A ton of male players (the main force behind gaming) won't buy NOLF because there's a female protagonist. Women are a bit put off by having to play men, but not nearly as much as men are of playing women. Why? Men view women as being weak. Period. So if it was really Bast's story instead of Revan's, not nearly as many people would have bought it and enjoyed it.

Revan's main skill is that s/he's a brilliant tactician. S/he's also strong in the force, coming close to (but not hitting) Anakin. In other words, s/he is smarter than him when it comes to troop movements. Oh, and Anakin may be more powerful, but you're only as strong as how much you use your power.

If, of course, you understood any of that, you win a cookie.

  16. It has been said that Revan will be based off of what you say to, uhgh, what's-his-name, the "cutie boy" who is taking the place of Carth.

I doubt we'll ever see a KOTOR Movie (How far will Lucas go to be able to swim in 100$ bills?), but I can imagine a KOTOR book based off of the playable NPCs.

As for Revan's face. Well. That's what hoods are for. And telepathy...or voice distortion. ;)

Considering that everyone is extremely protective of "their" Revan, I imagine they'll attempt to not take too much control of us in the "Build-Your-Own-Previous-Protagonist" scale of the game.

Personally, I adored my female Revan with her snazzy yellow lightsaber. . .Soldier/Consular. They're what dreams are made of.

  17. Mmm. It's been said that there will be no light from the lightsaber, because of it taking up too much memory. It's also been said, I believe, that there will be no flowing capes because they'd have to make it very skeletal, building it into the character models, I believe.

They appear to be taking much more care with the minigames. We'll get swoop-upgrades, so perhaps a tourney isn't that far over the horizon?

Two cents: Nice ideas all, especially the one about the eyes. While the lip-synching timing was in general more annoying, now that I think about it...The staring into space all the time was rather odd, but looking at the camera would be worse.

Sorry... While some of these features would be nice to have, maybe we'll have more luck with KOTOR 3?

BTW, not to be cruel or anything but run-on sentences and no capitalization will get you not taken seriously. Also will the misuse of spell-checker, as you'll get nabbed by a little deamon named "Spellmar". Just a friendly warning. :)

  18. Hey devs, What type of system requirements are we looking at for the PC version of KOTOR II?

We honestly don't know yet

I kinda wondered that myself. I'm fairly certain my Athlon XP 2800+ with 512MB RAM will run it... (I'll upgrade to a gig of ram if it doesn't), my main concern is whether to get the best of the improved graphics, if I'll need to shell out for a GeForce 6800 video card or something to get it.

Even with my FX5200 256MB, I can only set to 2x oversampling and antialiasing, and not get /many/ slowdowns. The running and such starts slowing down at 4x, and when there's smoke or running water, it slows down to unplayable levels, even on that high of a card. Am I running in too high of a resolution? I'm running it at 1024x768... And this one is supposed to have 'better' (read: more hardware intensive) graphics! :p

I have a fairly similar system to yours, let's say, except for the fact that the only thing that didn't meet the requirements for my computer was the RAM. I had 508MB, and it was still slow - yet I wouldn't sell my graphics for speed.

The worst things nowadays about computers is that in a year or two they're so outdated. I got this one last year, and it struggles with games like KOTOR and other graphic rich games (especially the big battles...heh.) which can be quite frusterating when all you're missing is 4MB of RAM.

Anyways, this is the question topic, so I'll make a mock question so that I won't be yelled at. ;)

Will we get our own personal critter pet thing? I adored the little critters from torment...the lim-lims, I think? And you all know critters are just fun. It's what made the gizka so annoying, but so great.

And as an afterthought: Will we be able to cook the wildlife over fires and rip their tender, burning flesh from the corpses? And will we finally get a toilet in the Ebon Hawk?

:p Sorry, I just can't think up any good questions other than the gripe about RAM. I'll try to do better next time.
