The supposition by the OP, that backers behind the game automatically agree with the main dev's personal opinion, disagree with do I. Being a backer, I find it redonkulous for any game maker to deliberately leave out of the game a fundamental aspect that is wanted by a significant portion of the buyers of the games. Being a 'backer' or not is irrelevant to this. They still wish to 'sell' the game, and being a for profit company, it is lacking in common intelligence for Obsidian to leave romance options out of the game.

I 'backed' the game specifically because Obsidian games have had some awesome romance options in the past. Alpha Protocol, Planescape: Torment, Fallout: New Vegas, et cetera are fabulous examples.

That the main dev dislikes romance options? I was perfectly good with, because ultimately it should be up to whether they want more or less profit. A lot of what a main dev does is delegate responsibilities they cannot, and/or will not, perform to the best of their ability. So the responsible choice for the main dev is to hire a writer or two who DO enjoy romance options in games.

Anyone making excuses for the developers and producers for failing to do their job is clearly confused, believe do I.

I recently played through Planescape: Torment, and while it's absolutely one of the best stories that I've played through in a video game, I really didn't enjoy its handling of romances. Annah (and to a lesser extent, Fall-from-Grace) falling for the player unprompted isn't organic story-building, it's an example of what Chris Avellone calls ego-stroking. Annah and Grace were designed to be a Betty and Veronica pair, a kind of harem for the player. I consciously resisted romance options because that's not the sort of thing I play CRPG's for, and that's still the outcome I got.

PS:T's handling of female characters in general is pretty terrible, actually. Morte, although a great character, sometimes comes a bit close to being that player around the table, the one who leers after all the female NPC's or makes female players feel uncomfortable. Giving that kind of a player a voice as an CNPC strikes me as a bad move. I stumbled across this design document from the very early stages of development yesterday. The document straight-up says, "Sure, you may be a fat dateless loser in real life, but in Last Rites [PS:T's name early on], you get the women and respect you'e always craved". Part of the headings in the game's vision statement is "babes, as in, "TRUCKLOADS OF". It says,

Tons of Total Babes: This game will have lots of babes that make the player go "wow." There will be fiendish babes, human babes, angelic babes, asian babes, and even undead babes. These babes will be present without nipple-age and will all regrettably behave within the TSR Code of Ethics.

The message is clear: this game isn't for girls. Heterosexual men only need apply. Fortunately, PoE is much better in that regard - does anyone really think the quality of the story would be improved if Sagani, Pallegina, or Grieving Mother wore skimpy rags instead of armour? But if romances were included in PoE 2, they'd have to be handled very carefully so as not to wander into that weird, ego-stroking, power-fantasy harem territory.

What a complete load of garbage and total bashing of Torment.

    You are totally clueless.

Torment isnt my favorite game and ive only completed it once. But i didnt even know there was romances. So you are just lying through your teeth about it being prompted on the player.

Typical liberal facist feminist agenda propaganda nonsense. Glad to see you are really starting to losing hard in society. More and more see your sect for what it really is

  2. Righteouss soul is awesome.

    Moon like race is incredible.

Tidefall is my fav weapon of all

    Id bump up constitution

And get colonist for survival. +60 % healing

The combo of lay on hands with 60% healing takes you from no hp to full with even if you have high con. And silvertide is +75% hp.

To say you can survive enermous amounts of dmg is an understatement. And you deal huge dmg with tidefall.

Id also add some defense talents rather than the critical focus, vuln attack, savage attack for amazing saves.

  3.

And its intended. Not a bug.

Just wanted to inform as ive myself waited on that info

F&C caps at +8/+17. With Deep Faith it becomes +10/+20. Overall a +3/+7 nerf to the paladin defenses. Still has the best defenses in the game and with the new soulbound armor he's even stronger...

    Yes that is right!

Dammit my headline is now wrong when it was supposed to be informative : )

Thank you for correcting me and for doing it so fast

    Hey everyone,

This is working as intended. Faith and Conviction got a slight nerf and the bonuses we're lowered as Kaylon has pointed out.

    Sorry for the confusion!

What about those fractional bonuses from dispositions? They were confirmed to be a bug (by yourself) here:

    http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/83952-v300929-px1-steam-faith-and-conviction-nerfed-of-bugged/?do=findComment&comment=1771492

but apparently they are still present in 3.02.

Also, i see no mention of Deep Faith changes but it now gives +3 to 'other defenses' instead of +5.

    A bug, i assume?

No the final score is now 8/17 down from 13/27

So -5 in deflection, -10 in all others.

Just to be clear im not saying paladins are bad or anything its just that imo i liked them for their good defense more than their support so i will use fighters instead now.

Im not even saying it was bad to nerf the paladin.

Thank you for the clarification, ive been waiting on it before i start another game.

It isnt a slight nerf however when you put it all together. Rather a huge nerf. From +27 for 3 defenses to +17. That is -30 in defenses not even counting the minus to deflection.

With the buffs to fighters as well (awesome talents in the last expansion, really gj) i know what class i will always pick over the other now.

the video did convince people that scrolls could be exploited... as traps were exploitable at release. you did encourage folks to do similar videos o' priests and mages n' such.

the tank-worthiness o' a class is maybe not best illustrated in a video in which one SOLO kills a boss in ~ 30 seconds. such doesn't so much show strength o' a class, but rather a weakness o' the rules.

    HA! Good Fun!

Gromnir is right. Those solo videos just shows the game rules being exploited in a way that was never intended.

Which is why limited use items always are very problemtic for game balance.

But people keep insisting on make games with a ton potions, food, scrolls and other consumables...leading to a complete break down of all game balance

It is also terrible storytelling to see a hero eat 7 dishes of food before fighting a dragon. Reading lots of scrolls in a fight, drinking many potions.

Just imagine a heavy weight fighter in a title bout visiting 7 restaurants before and drinking colas throughout a round and reading magazines. What a complete joke

    Serious or trolling?

I don't know of any game that doesn't rely on the same, if not very similar mechanics.

Only exceptions are games that don't even resemble a RPG.

Games have evolved alot actually from diablos insane potion spam to cooldowns on them in dragon age origins.

POE has, believe it or not, much less consumable spam than earlier titles. BG 2 had the rod of resurrection. Instant full heal immediately and no cooldown. Imagine have 10 lives in POE vs adra dragon. Thats right we are moving in the right direction. And people like Kaylon actually help to show developers just how badly they messed up. The next title will hopefully be better

Blaming people because they're using the tools at their disposal is a joke.

If the game isn't realistic or immersive or whatever floats your boat... you should complain to developpers about their design choices.

Heh... If food increasing abilities would exist in reality I'm sure every heavy weight fighter would come with their bellies full before each fight and nobody would find it ridiculous.

Im not blaming you for exploiting it. Its all about having fun.

Im just saying, hopefully, obsidian didnt intend for such a completely immersive breaking spam to be possible and that in the future consumables will be more limited.

  9. Cipher is a lot of fun solo. I cry everytime I can't use an ability but still one of the most viable solo classes.

As to on crit prone effects: The crit triggers a 2nd attack which can be deflected but it targets a different defense I believe for prone it's fortitude.

There also might be an accuraccy bonus on that effect I'm not sure.

Mmm not sure if things have changed but easy isn't as easy as some people think.... The enemy stats are the same as hard, the only thing that changes is the amount of adds. That means the alpine dragon is still, well the alpine dragon. Its only Potd and storytime where the stats change. So there are still going to be some tough fights, though obviously the adds do make a difference in difficulty.

For people who usually play PotD the difference is huge.

If i were to put number on the difficulty settings:

    Story 10

    Easy 100

    Normal 115

    Hard 130

    POTD 160

As said alpine dragon is the same on easy, normal, hard which makes those difficulty settings much closer to eachother than one thinks.

Storytime is incredibly easy. The difference between easy and storytime is bigger than between easy and POTD!!

  10. Fighters with unbending, unbroken and triggered immunity are pretty much impossible to take down in any fight if you know how to use and gear them.

Im not saying that they are better than casters. But they are extremely durable with decent dmg. Bad CC ofc. Alot of people dont know just how strong unbending is. Better than triggered immunity and unbroken and both of em are really good!

I would rank priest and wiz as the most OP classes but after that I think its pretty even.

Rogue+barb the weakest (but not by much)

  11. POE at release was ok.

The deflection stacking, gamebreaking bugs etc stopped it from being more.

But now, after all the polishing, rebalance and extra stuff (storymode, white march etc) it is a fantastic game.

Just like New Vegas you kept at it until it was a masterpiece.

I suppose you need tons of feedback to get it so good because had you released NV and POE like they ended up from start you would be pretty much unstoppable in the gaming industry.

    Thanks for another awesome rpg.

(I could list 100 of small great things you did in POE but ill only say one here and now. Amazing written stronghold battle, a few simple texts and ohhh the feel...epic.)

  12. There is a nerf AND a bug. The bug involves the fact that disposition doesn't count anymore, only player level (you'll get maximum 5lvls for Faith and Conviction when you reach lv16). The nerf was double - to Faith and Conviction itself (it starts at +4def/+8for/ref/will instead of +5def/+10for/ref/will) and to Deep Faith (+2def/+3for/ref/will instead of +2def/+5for/ref/will). If you add the nerf to base deflection in 2.0 the paladin lost overall +6def/+4for/ref/will since the beginning of the game.

This isnt only what i have. I have the nerf for the talent and the nerf for the ability itself and then a nerf for rep points (but its there)

My level 5 paladin gets a bonus for rep but no longer +2 per rep point. Its much lower (less than +1 but with 4 rep points ive gotten +3 but this is NOT for levels but for rep)
