  1. As someone who staunchly loves big, epic, single-player cRPGs, I would normally disagree with having co-op in this. With that said, I do miss the days of local LAN parties playing Icewind Dale II. I remember creating characters until the early morning hours with my friends and then setting out on the adventure. Great times. Having like 3 or 4 computers in one room, all linked together was epic.

Hey all, I emailed them and asked them the same question, this was their reply. Hope this helps some guys/gals...

WHAT'S THE LATEST NEWS ON PHYSICAL BACKER REWARDS?

Most of the physical items for backers are ready, but we're waiting for a few last pieces to come in from across the world.

We're currently estimating shipping everything in the middle of June based on their estimates.

Please check back on this page for updates as we learn more from our logistics and fulfillment partners. ""

Here is the email they sent me..

    Hi Mereinid,

This is the most recent status update about shipping: https://support.obsidian.net/article/23-whats-the-latest-news-on-physical-backer-rewards

So hopefully not too much longer. Is there anything else with which I can help at this time?

    with respect,

    Richard

Thank you for posting this, very disappointing (AGAIN) but at least its an update.

Middle of June?? Geez. So much for having the book and mouse pad for when I play Deadfire first time around. Anyone know if some of this stuff is able to be cancelled at this point?

I mean, I threw in the mouse pad to help support a little bit more, but it's something I really don't need, especially now.

  3. I have really missed good thunder and rain sounds in this game. I remember entering Gilded Vale for the first time and just sitting there for a while listening to the rain falling and the rolling thunder in the distance. It was so awesome.

For whatever reason, the ambient sounds in this game just are not up to par. I still think ambient sounds need their own slider to adjust. Don't know why Deadfire doesn't have this option. I don't want to turn up the sound effects (don't need louder swords clashing, etc) just to hear the ambient noises better.

  4. They supplement the spells wizards learn from levelling. You can cast any that you've picked on level-ups, plus any in your equipped grimoire. I've found them much more practical than in PoE 1, to be honest.

Ohhhhh. I had no clue this is how it worked. I assumed all spells were based on what were in the book. So, if I have picked spells when I level up those are ALSO included on top of whatever book I choose to use as well?

If so, it makes a lot more sense to me now. Up to this point, I hadn't changed a grimoire!

  5. I have a relatively good setup:

    CPU - 6600k Skylake 3.5ghz

    GPU - GeForce 1070

    Memory - 16GB

I've only had one crash so far. It was when I was leaving the four level dungeon not too far north from the game starting island. I run diagnostics when I play my game and with regard to heat, this one tops out at 73C for me, which is hotter than most other games that are far more graphically intense than this one. But, come to think of it, I've never heard my GPU fan kick on yet.

Anyway, you should post specs of your PC and especially post this in the section for support.

  6. I get your frustration. I for one completely expected this (not that that's ok). But Obsidian has a track record of fixing and adjusting their games to be very excellent a few months down the road from release (not that that's ok).

I for one am happy the game 1) Actually runs. 2) Have not encountered any major bugs (to me at least).

I can start naming off a lot of games that 1) Didn't actually even work on launch day. 2) Were so poorly optimized on PC it was unplayable. 3) PC games that never get the fixes/optimizations they truly need.

  7. So I've been watching a ton of critical role, started playing dnd 5e thanks to roll20 (I'm old school so this tool is fricken amazing for me) albeit its just once every two weeks. *sighs whistfully* if only it could be more. But yeah right now im so engrassed and I love it. My mmo has fallen completely to the wayside and I'm happy for it.

Sidenote, I would fricken love a Eora Campaign in 5e.

PS The plethora of magical wares available upon visiting Nekataka make me wish I was a better theory crafter. Can't wait till Boeroer makes some odd lore friendly creations like he did in POE1.

So, not sure if you are aware, but Josh is making a pen and paper PoE roleplaying game. Not sure how the rules will be compared to D&D, but I'm sure it will be very similar. Can't wait to get my minis to paint! It's been a few years since I dabbled in the mini painting...

  8. It is most impressive. The questing has not gotten dull for me yet in that city. Originally, I had wanted to complete the whole city in one go, but after finding out this is the only major city in the game, I've explored one section at a time, then gone out to sea, completed bounties, quests, and generally explored more of the Deadfire. Neketaka has become almost like a hub for me. More so than my ship.

I will say, I really, really loved Defiance Bay in PoE. Copper Lane was a huge map! Once I finish up Neketaka, I'll have a better idea which city I preferred.

The problem with ranger is how easly pet dies. If you cant keep that thing alive, all fancy dmg pet feats doesnt matter.

There is not enought pet defense passives for marksman. No healing factor for pet. No bonus deflection or other defenses. No bonus health for pet.

Heal companion is long cast, and overpriced.

Dead pet is trauma which could spoil experience with Ranger. And fact that you cant do anything about it is even worse.

    Play a ghost heart!

But how are you getting your pet killed so much? I never got Ishiza killed outside party wipe caused by stupidity...

Also, what kind of companion did you choose? I used the wolf in PoE and the bear in Deadfire. My bear has died a total of three times. Twice on full team wipes and once on his own, due to my failure to heal (I've manually healed the bear maybe twice). But I resurrected my bear and he was good to go. That thing is a tank.

  10. Nice review from a long-time cRPG fan. Stating from the beginning that BG2 is your all time favorite RPG gives you instant points in my book.

Your assessment sounded fair (something SO lacking on the internet these days). While I have a long way to go to beat the game, I'm looking forward to more. I have a lot to explore still and can't comment on all your points. Here are some of my comments:

    The good:

    1) The game is beautiful. Completely agree. I would love to see all the old Infinity Engine games get updated like this!

    2) The music is growing on me. I'm really big into video game soundtracks and the first PoE blew me away. This one is slowly getting better (still need more ambient sounds!)

    3) Completely agree!

    4) Agree. It's growing on my more now.

    5) I have enjoyed exploring. Just wish there was more "meat" to some of the maps so far.

    6) Menu system is great! 5 man party is not great!

    7) COMPLETELY agree!

    The bad:

    1) N/A

    2) I have zero problem with ship combat. In fact, I make it a point to sink ships. To me it's more fun than boarding and fighting 12-14 enemies.

    3) It's Obsidian. It's a cRPG. Totally expected this. It will get better.

    4) I'm fine with the combat. While I enjoy encounters, I prefer the exploration/story aspects of cRPGs.

  11. I hate to think this game won't sell well, especially compared to DOS 2. I bought both DOS's, finished the first one, but not the 2nd. I don't get why those games are so overhyped and overrated. DOS 2 just seemed to be missing something. The combat was just an experience in frustration and reloads. If anything DOS 1 is better. I doubt I'll ever finish DOS 2, but I'm on my way to finishing Deadfire. Deadfire is the better game.

I disagree. As someone who passed on both D:OS games initially, when Deadfire release got pushed back, I bought both, and found myself playing 2 first after trying 1 out. I LOVE both games. I also love turn-based combat too. To me, both those games were a refreshing take on the isometric cRPG.

When it comes to Obsidian though, I want them to keep to the traditional cRPG take. I'm liking Deadfire a lot, but for some reason both D:OS resonated with me more. I think it was just that there were things done in that game that I'd never seen done before in an isometric cRPG.

  12. I don't know about the faction system being "too political". Absolutely none of the factions are truly supposed to be easy to pinpoint as the "good" one.

    - The Vaillians start out represented as the more benevolent faction, but quite quickly it becomes clear that the initial impression is cherry picking with serious infighting in the faction, as well as others pointing out that they are only there for profit and will leave areas without such financial interest alone.

    - The Rauatai are militarists and imperialistic (both militarily and culturally)... but unlike the Vaillians, they are far more interested in other things than simple profit, and the Huana they are culturally invasive towards have customs that included a caste system and at times just outright stupidity (eating the whole fruits including the seeds on a starving island...)

    - The Huana are the local culture being invaded by outsiders and they have a social distribution of wealth... which doesn't work very well and their local culture, as noted, is hardly presented as without fault.

    - The pirates are pirates. I got nothing and never bothered working for them yet. The only good pirate is a dead pirate*.

*The watcher is not a pirate, he/she is a privateer. Totally different.

I generally agree in your assessment of pirates. In fact, I'm not wanting to be a pirate in this game. Trying to be benevolent, etc. However, you need to go to the pirate isle where the pirate council resides. THAT is a cool room and the quest you get from the head pirate is awesome.

  13. OMG. I can't believe you people. How can Ranger have that many dislikes??? Out of my party of Me (Ranger), Xoti, Eder, Aloth, and the blue Orlan; I have the most kills. BY FAR. The DPS on a Ranger is sick and the aggro (is that even a thing in this game lol) my bear pulls is insane. Add to the fact that my bear hardly dies, is a bullet sponge, and knocks enemies on their tushes, should be proof enough that Ranger is not the worst class.

Surely you people dislike Priest more than Ranger in this game?!?
