  1. A Mage in Baldur's Gate had all these spells I never really used... Ghoul Touch, Vampiric Touch, Cold Touch, Burning Hands... all magic that required to put your mage in a melee situation (cus the mage enchanted his hands). The problem when you did this was that the Mage was dead almost instantly the second he got in close (SCS, enemies target the Mage as long as he is in range of their sword/bow in any situation).

Not to mention all those are low level (weak) spells which barely scratch (or at all) normal enemies, melee wizards need better defense and MUCH better melee damaging spells to be a proper close combatant

  2. Didn't Bethesda try to sue Notch for the word "Scrolls"? Sigh.... So not out of the realm of possibilities.

They did ... and their case was dismissed if I recall

Three cheers for a judge with an an ounce of common sense!!

as far I know it was only dismissed due to the companies agreeing out of court, and that agreement sounded to me as if Notch lost

  3. The Ouroboros is not copyrighted, heck it is even a symbol for a knightly Order... but then again, the word "Scrolls" isn't copyright material either and was still the reason for dragging a game with that word as name before judges. Also Bioware got sued by some Canadian medical organization for its use of the cross (for first aid or medkits in Mass Effect 1) which made them decide to replace it in the sequel. Copyright as it is now in my opinion is simply put moronic, but I guess one can't entirelly ignore it today, due to the overall idiocity in the society.

Besides, I doubt Obsidian will call the final game still "Project Eternity" so maybe symbols get changed as well.

  4. I hope a "melee mage" can conjure weapons like flaming daggers or an electricity spear or acid scythe. Those would just make somehow more sense in most cases than using a standard melee weapon. Of course it depends on concept, in case of an "armored mage knight" it would be more fitting to also use physical weaponry, but in case of a mage who mostly defends itself with force fields, stoneskin, and similar, summoned weapons would be more fitting I think.

Investments mentioned at 4:51! You mad, anti-simulator bros?

I hope for being able to own buildings and such, if you ignore the whole modern idea about assets/investments and think in the framework of a medieval setting, you can still see clergy, merchants, and nobility owning lands, cities, castles, mines, etc

Of course I think even more interesting than simply owning things is the ability to customize and upgrade them, let mines and walls be guarded by your own loyal people, with the banner of your own raised (be it a banner of your noble family, or your guild, or some other faction). If one wants to, let the player use purple and golden furniture for his castle or house in a city (who knows? maybe the character has a purple/golden Coat of Arms to begin with and wants it to be fitting?)

One can't really cut pieces of the whole "cake" and declare that this part is okay for an RPG while the other isn't. For a rich and/or noble character it is very logical to be able to own lands and customize them in many ways. I always hated that both in pnp and PC games this side gets almost always ignored -well Pathfinder has something like that but its still far from perfect-.On the other hand, those people who are not at all interested in these things shouldn't be forced to do these things, and should be able to play the whole game ignoring this part, even if it means losing out on the experience and missing out on items and events/quests.

  6. I love multiclassing, I also love gestalt characters/games, if implemented right

Honestly though, mostly I really don't want to see dual wielding and "Persuasion" skill be restricted to the "Rogue" class as it was in Dragon Age 2, and I want to be able to make a non-assassin/rogue stealthy char or a non-thief lockpicker and pickpocket, thankfully the option to have an armored "Mage Knight" is basically confirmed by now (some "realistic" examples could be a sneaky -european styled- monk, a knight who grew up on streets and thus gained skills uncommon for one in a knightly order, or a noble who due to heritage had to train in warfare and swordmanship while also having inborn magical talent)

As mentioned in an other thread though, I would prefer the concept of classes being thrown out to begin with, similar to how it is handled in either Vampire:TM or 7th Sea, maybe even Rift

  7. I wish some game would have a mute character again (while the main game itself is voice acted), I am fed up with characters that hide their faces (mainly because its easier that way than to draw/make one for them by artists or devs), on the other hand a silent monk (or anything else really, even a mute gnome wizard would work) in a game of todays standards would be a more challenging character to implement interesting and well, considering the char would have to properly show emotions, and maybe even write down what it wants (of course we would have to actually see the notes shown, and not get cheated by devs by some other char "translating" for us without seeing the writing, that would be the cheap way out of the issue)

Becoming all cinematic, "actiony", and voice acted took in my opinion a lot more away from RPG games than it gave, and the more I play such games the more I see the tendency that the next games take away more control and imagination from the players than earlier ones.

Ironically, despite all the bashing against Japanese anime-like games and shows those get, I believe they express their feeling usually better than their western counterparts, even if one has to first get used to the typically manga "emotion symbols", those don't get scared away from showing some pain and love themes which would in most cases be taboo themes in the west, or at least be censored.

  8. A midget detective cipher lol

when you put it that way...

    all hail Detective Conan!

but honestly though, there is an esper/psion detective manga/anime aswell, this concept is like a mix of the two stories, but in my book that is cool, I would say in this century Detective Conan is better than most detective stories you can find in typical western media (although I admit there are a few boring cases too, still a good and long running story)

  9. I simply can't take this seriously.

Why not? Aren't you bored by the fact that every single game must have a predictably happy ending?

I like diversity, I like games that allow more than 2 endings, especially if those are not "color coded" and just repainted clones of the same hamster

Your poll is not a real poll, I would have chosen "sure, also have those as possible endings", the cliffhanger may be something like a foreshadowing of what to come, or something that ties-in the story to what already happened (like in case of Deus Ex 3 which had the secret ending what connected it truly to Deus Ex 1)

I however like my happy endings thanks, getting a single ending forced on us is already bad, it is even worse if it is a cliffhanger, a sad ending, or anything remotedly similar to what Mass Effect 3 had before the "extended cut" had an actual epilogue included. I want good endings, being happy or sad is not a guarantee for them to be one, but a cliffhanger basically guarantees it to be a bad one.

I am not surprised many can't take this thread seriously, it basically has everything a beginner troll would have in its first thread.

  10. I am for reducing the actual armor system to two slots: armor and underarmor.

Seriously, who ever wears plate greaves and vambraces and a leather coat? Who wears leather armor with plate boots? Well, apart from Morrowind enthusiasts.

RL people from various eras and regions on Earth? as example soldiers in the Kingdom of Hungary in the 11th-13th century? Tuscan sellswords? not sure about the leather coat but while you don't find many "professional armies" (as much you can call the medieval and earlier armies that) mixing a lot up you can find a few historical cases, and in some cultures more evidence of weapon/armament style mixtures than in other (another example for this would be the temurid-mughal "royal guards")

also, using a leather main armor with metal arm and leg protection is very very common actually

I imagine your issue is mainly that in games you barely find aethestically fitting pieces of various armor sets, which would be true

  11. That sums it up perfectly. This is a ROLEplaying game. Now, we need to get out of narrow-minded approach that a role is only what you contribute to a party in a combat situation (DPS, healer, tank, crowd control, etc.). Some people like playing actual roles in the game's society, and this is something that would allow us to do that to a greater extent.

seconded with fist raised into air for emphasis

  12. [...] belts wouldn't be too bad to have either, otherwise my Pants of Awesome Speed and Stamina +3 would fall down too often

I've thought about it, and I'm tired of same ol' "belt slot" ... especially when my character is wearing a dress. But since we can't have everyone's pants falling down, how about changing it up to suspenders? I bet my Rogue would look really awesome in some tight black leather pants with Rainbow Suspenders of Fire and Ice Protection +2! :disguise:

btw, I would add an extra one for Earring(s), but I guess a single slot for "Other" would work better, you could place a lot of stuff in it, like you know, Earrings, Peg-leg, Bottle o'Rum, Family Heirloom, or the occasional Miniaturized Giant Space Hamster

Actually, I like this idea. But I want a "Pied Piper's Flute of Feline Attraction" in the game, where when I equip it in a town, a jaunty little tune will play and I will have a plethora of housecats following me everywhere I go. :cat:

No, seriously tho, I do like that idea. Gives people one slot for some unique items, whether useful or just humorous, that could be put in the game.

yes it does have a lot of uses, it could also be a slot for some self-made trinket in game, like something made of crystals and metals from all major locations your character visited, and basically all the NPC companions could get fleshed a bit out with some unique item in this slot, without it taking away room from other actually useful items (if I remember correctly Boo was using up a "ring" slot in BG?)

  13. With all the stuff people are suggesting pretty soon it's going to look like this:

    Helmet

    Cuirass

    Pauldrons

    Couters

    Vambraces

    Gauntlets

    Belt

    Cuisses

    Poleyns

    Greaves

    Sollerets

    Cloak

    Ring

    Ring

    Ring

    Ring

    Ring

    Ring

    Ring

    Ring

    Earring

    Earring

    Necklace

    Anklet

    Navel Piercing

    Nose Piercing

    Eyebrow Piercing 1

    Eyebrow Piercing 2

    Subdermal Implant 1

    Subdermal Implant 2

I want to spend the majority of my time playing the game, not managing inventory.

Well, with something like that in my mind did I make a combined +1 slot suggestion for "Other"

  14. A good example of a non-aligment based paladin-like class are Templars from DA. I'd like class liek that. Feels very paladinish without being paladins.

Well, that is because they are Templars, a military order of the Church which is more military-like than the typical Paladin orders which have greater autonomy

(not to mention paladins are more directly under the command of their diety and not the clergy, which makes them about equal with priests/clerics in hierarchy, unlike Templars)
