X06 Story Telling panel featuring Peter Jackson...
butterfly replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
Not really , this way they could already start designing the campaign before the engine was finalised. Qwb, <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That requires them to build it in the NWN engine first? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dialogue, quest design, area layout and prolly other stuff could be prototyped in the nwn engine before stable tools for the da engine are available. qwb, -

He didn't really say 'real' world, mainly because he wasn't speaking english. That's just my paraphrase of discussion. qwb,

Actually i have heard the opposite, it's one of many litle fuzzy factoids buzzing around in my head. I know a lot of little things i just don't trust them. qwb,
-
Well with 2 of the 3 things i agree, but why does it have to have capital letters. It's those litle things i can't wrap my head around. So maybe this isn't that important but i still wonder. The reason why i write my name like i do is because i have a very unsteady hand, this is the best way to make my signature legible. And i do need to add my first name, that was the only reasonable argument i think he had. narcist,

I had a short but angry discussion with my father about my handwritten signature. He said it was a worthless signature and asked when i would finally get a 'decent' signature. I replied that this was my signature and i wasn't going the change it, as there was nothing wrong with it. He proceeded to say i was a self-absorbed fool who knew nothing about the world, that my signature was childish and that people would think less of me because of it. I told him he was being silly, upon which he basically said that with my attitude i would have serious trouble living in the 'real' world. If your wondering, my signature is just my last name written as I would normally do it without a capital letter. So i was wondering is he alone in his opinion, because I can't really see much merit in his reaction or his arguments. But i'm not the kind of person to just trust in what to me feels obvious and reasonable, so i wanted to get some feedback. qwb, PS I truly am a somewhat passive and self-absorbed person of him, so i suppose this maybe part of some long running frustation with those aspects of me.

Neverwinter Nights: Darkness over Daggerford
butterfly replied to jaguars4ever's topic in Computer and Console
Yeah, modules rarely get that right for some reason - after instant leveling at the start, wizards and clerics need a mandatory resting period. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> can't you rest in the wagon ? Qwb, -

You have to do all the quests for the lady at the inn(the one that arrived with you) before you can leave daggerford. Qwb, -

Actually, look at this firestorm icon from IWD2, it is identical to the one in the screenshot. Firestorm The same for lightening bolt , Lightening bolt qwb, -

Apparently IWD2 icons were amongst the assets that Obsidian bought(recovered) from Interplay. Qwb, -

I'm not really playing anything at the moment. Oh i've killed of a few characters in nethack and played a few games of go online, but that's nothing really. I'm waiting for some interesting Rpg's to come out, NWN2 and DA are the only ones i see on the horizon though. The Rpg market seems a bit thin at the moment. Qwb,

The demo versions for the spiderweb games are pretty large, you could play the to find out. Personally i like them. They're very fun early in, but get a bit tedious near the end. And ofcourse you have to be able to get over the primitive graphics. qwb,

I wouldnt say Morrowind requires much in the way of skill. Skill can certainly help when it comes to doing things early or out of sequence. But you can still do what you can in most RPGs which is to level up and make the differences. Oblivion has sort of merged the two, so rather than have a to hit (which meant not only did the player have to hit the target but the character too) it's all been merged together. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why did you quote me, it has nothing to do with your post? qwb,
-
I never played morrowwind, so it could be your right. It is still different from fallout in that respect though since it was turnbased (to clarify i'm not saying that turnbased is better or that F3 should be turnbased). I don't play games that require to much player skill, since i suffer a slight RSI disability. So I prefer a time-type where i can sit back and calmly issue orders. qwb,
-
I was not commenting on wether it was good or not, i was pointing out it had no similarity to fallout. Nor was i commenting on the quality of Oblivion. qwb,
-
Do you mean that player skill or character skill has been removed in the "to hit factor"? Either way I think that's a positive thing though. If I am forced to physically connect with an attack, I don't want my skill invalidated by an incompetent character (and vice versa). Either use my skill, or my character's. Regardless, I definitely don't see going in either direction as dumbing down the game. Also, Morrowind was definitely pausable. I don't remember how much you could do when it was paused, but I know the option was there. I'm still not a fan of the series and I don't expect I will like Oblivion overly much, but at least they change enough things to warrant me giving it a fair shot. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know the details, as is said it was jus my impression. Anyway it was a move from character skill to player skill, wich for me is not a positive thing. Most games are pausable, what I mean with "with pause" is that you can give orders while paused. qwb,
-
Well the impression i have is that their dumbing it down like removing skill based to hit, but then again i don't really pay attention to oblivion. So they changed some things going from morrowind to oblivion, but they didn't really touch the basis of the game. It still has no dialog or strong story(Ok i can't reall know that) nor memorable characters, it still has a first person perspective and it's stil realtime without pause. Maybe they will do fallout justice, but i'll believe that when i see it. Qwb,
-
The point is not that they make bad games, the point is that they make very un-fallout games. I personally don't like the type of game daggerfall was(the only bethesda game i've ever played). Maybe Bethesda can make a game in the spirit of fallout, but it seems unlikely to me because they would have to completely change their modus operandi. Qwb,
-
Fallout is known for having an open-ended story, bethesda is know for having an open-ended world with litle story. Looking at the games bethesda made and comparing them with the fallout games i find litle similarity. qwb,

Ok that makes sense. Except for Australia. How are they west of the Middle-East? Aren't they South-East? Being somewhat sarcastic here <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The west refers to all cultures that are predominantly of (western-)european origin : Europe, the Americas and Australia/New Zealand. The origin of the term is historical. qwb,

You say that free will can not coexist with determinism. That implies that if free will does exist the universe must be at least partial non-deterministic. So no, you did mention random chance, not literaly maybe but that's not really important. Our current idea of how the world works is irrelevant, none of the arguments presented are based on any specific physic theorie. The universe is either deterministic or it isn't. I do not see how non-determinism allows free will, it just doesn't. I find it intriguing that in your reasoning about why free will and determinism are incompatible, free will is not used. You just state the definition of determinism, followed by the conclusion. Sure you can't do everything, you can only do what you want. qwb,
-
The issue I stated is that if all the molecules (and smaller elementary particles) are moving according to physics we know, then there is a predefined path for each of them for the next eternity, hence our thinking is defined by it. We may think that we choose, but really our brain consist of those particles which will move in a pre-defined manner. That's what I mean by determinism. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's a coincedence, that's also what i mean with determinisme. What are the odds. I just don't see how pure random chance, because that's what non-determinisme is, constitute more free will than a deterministic mechanism. Think about it, is it anymore free will if your choice is purely an outcome of chance. I'd rather have my choices be determined by my own reasoning, and that reasoning is the laws of physics acting on the particles of my brain. qwb,
-
Hell why not. If you assume that movements of elementary particles in the universe (including your brain) is deterministic then we don't have free will. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When faced with an important decision what is free will: choosing the best choice after careful consideration or just randomly picking one. The first choice is deterministic, the second is not. Determinisme does not impede free will. I personally don't understand how one can have free will under non-determinisme. qwb,
