TSL Restored Content Mod (Finished)

Windows Vista - some technical problems and solutions

The following answers to questions may contain spoilers. If so highlight the part behind A. to read the answer...

Q. I am at the Telos Academy. Instead of being locked up my teammates stand behind me and they talk about a Cheat Node

A.

This following issue has been caused by the 1.0B patch. There are 3 known solutions to fix this issue

1. Re-install Kotor2 without 1.0B

2. When entering the Academy, first ask who they are. Dropping your weapons immediately actually causes this bug to happen.

3. Thanks to Darth333 for this 3rd option.

This one can come in handy if you haven't got a savegame from before the Academy, or that one is too far away from your current position

The solution requires to set the global variable 262TEL_Atton_Talk" to 1 with KSE. The latest version of KSE is available here:

(people who have the non-english version of windows have to download KSEa instead of KSE).

It's very easy to do and it takes no more than one minute. Here's a screenie of what it looks like

TSLRCM also fixed this issue (though if you have already experienced it you still need to use option 3 listed above).

Q. I am stuck on Nar Shaddaa. Visquis does not wish to contact me.

A.

This can be caused by several things.

1. Red Eclipse fight. This is a required event, needed to proceed. After doing this you will still not be contacted unless the Exchange has heard of you though. When in the Refugee Sector there is a Speederbike you can repair. If you use this bike to exit the Sector though you might miss the trigger that causes the Red Eclipse to spawn. To make them spawn enter the Refugee Sector and exit it again on foot...

2. The Exchange might not have noticed you. Ask the bat-like creature in the Cantina Sector what the Exchange thinks of you. If this is not enough you can pay him 2000 credits. You wan't to pay it to please the Exchange if they already like you a bit or pay him to piss of the Exchange if they already started hating you. This should be enough to make them notice you.

3. You need to have entered the refugee sector and the docks both at least once before Visquis will call.

4. There is an issue that the call was made without actually being played if you exit the Ebon Hawk and then re-enter it right away when the call should have taken place. Usually this is notified by a clone of Atton standing outside of the Ebon Hawk. If this is happening download the KSE here and use it on your save. Change 300NAR_Visquis_Call=1 to 300NAR_Visquis_Call=0 under Globals-Booleans

Q. I cannot get of Goto's Yacht

A.

Altough this is no technical issue;

You need 2 programs. 1 being "shutdown" (get this from the droid in the starting room) and "Power Control" (get this from the console in the room where the Exile was). Now upload these if you haven't done already on the Bridge (see map) and use Shutdown on the Power...

Q. I have finished the sequence with B-4D4 and now I lost my party

A.

In the upper bar select the icon looking like 3 heads. 1 in front and the other 2 behind this one. Select Atton and Add, then Kreia and Add. Finish it by clicking OK in the bottom of the screen

Q. I am stuck in the Onderon Palace. I cannot disable the second terminal

A.

This is caused by telling the Captain at this station that you will disable the other station while you already have disabled the other station. To fix this you NEED to load a save from before talking to the Captain at that station.

Q. My personal crystal is unuse-able

A.

No bug. Talk to Kreia about it to make it use-able again

Q. I can not finish [Enter Quest here]

A.

A. Indeed. Some quests can become infinitely stuck in your questbook and cannot be completed anymore. Here is a list of the known ones.

Escaped Criminals. See further down for a fix.

Redemption. Unfinishable...

Vogga the Hutt. If you overhear the people in the Cantina talking about this but you already have access to Vogga, this quest becomes unfinishable

Vogga's Hoard. This needs you to dance to Vogga. Since this is only possible when the Twi'lek still seeks in the cantina or the first time after you wake him up from this this quest is unfinishable if you waked him up without re-sleeping him and not having this quest finished yet...

Galactic History: Bonus Mission. Forever stuck if you do not talk to Kreia about it after leaving Telos

Refugees Foes. Stuck if you kill the Sorocco leader after the Refugees have given up to Sasquash...

Sold to the Hutts. Happens when you kill Sasquash after you agreed to pay the ransom/convinced the quest-giver to sell herself and before you freed the girl.

A Matter of Leadership. If you speak with Anda but not kill any captains

Cave Crawling. Side with mercs on Dantooine but agreed to do the task

An Explosive Situation. Don't blow the cache up before leaving for Onderon

Fuel Sabotage. Enter the Ravager without ever dealing with all the Sith Troops on Citadel Station

Jedi Entombed. When you never entered room with the infinite spawn Hssiss and searched the body considering it is impossible to reenter the tomb

Starport Visa. If you give just one or no visas at all before leaving Onderon

Dxun Battle Ring. If you start the fights in the ring and not finished them when the Sith attack.

Q. I finished Fuel for Telos but nobody confirms that they have gotten themselves fuel...

Q. I cannot find the Telos Escaped Criminals!

Q. After training Handmaiden I find myself at the Telos Academy with nothing to do

Q. Visas will not learn me Force Sight

A. All of these and other issues are fixed in the TSL Restored Content Mod

Q. I am having slow performance on Dantooine and/or in the Jekk Jekk Tar

A. Open SWKotor2.ini found in the map where you installed Kotor2. There find [Graphics Options] and add the line Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

Q. The game starts windowed. Even setting it to fullscreen ingame does not help

A. Open SWKotor2.ini found in the map where you installed Kotor2. There find [Graphics Options] and change FullScreen=0 to FullScreen=1

Q. I am having slow performance. I have a Dual-Core processor and Nvidia videocard

A. The latest Nvidia drivers should have fixed this issue. You can find them here

Q. I'm having problems installing the game at all.

A. Sometimes installing from autorun throws up problems that can be avoided if you look for the manual install file on the first disc.

Q. I have defeated Zez-Kai Ell and am now locked inside his cabin

A. This is another known bug only solvable with help of a mod. Download the "Whereami armband" here (thanks to Darth333)

1. Where can I find Kotor and TSL mods?

Here's a list of sites where you can find Kotor and TSL mods:

a. General modding sites

You will find a variety of mods on the following sites, including side quests, new items and weapons, force powers, reskins, new characters, difficulty mods, etc.

  • Lucas Forums Kotor editing forums and more particularly the Taris Upper City Emporium Holowan Laboratories: the vast majority of kotor modders announce their mods over there - if there's a mod you'd like to have, you can also make a request.
  • PCGamemods - Kotor 1 - various Kotor 1 mods.
  • PCGamemods - TSL - tons of Kotor 2 TSL mods.
  • LucasFiles - you'll find some mods here. This is the only officially endorsed LucasArts mod download site.

Note that PCgamemods recently removed their comments sections, most modders announce their mods and await your comments at LucasForums, in the Upper Taris Emporium forum.

Don't forget to leave your feedback! Modders appreciate feedback: there's nothing like it to encourage them. Even if there are things to improve, it's always good to see people demonstrating an interest. It also helps to make better mods in the future.

b. Other sites where you can find mods:

"specialized" sites and modders personal websites

  • The Team Gizka site - beyond their cut-content project, this site has fixes for some commonly known issues in their downloads section, as well as some other downloads.
  • You will also find a list of modders' personal websiteshere.

Every Weekend, StarWarsKnights.com posts a list of new mods and tools to keep you informed of what is going on in the Kotor modding community.

2. Installing mods:

a. General

- You can find a tutorial on mod installation here

- Afraid to replace your game original files? Don't worry, mods do not normally require you to replace any file (except maybe the dialog.tlk file - see language issues below). Generally, mods will simply ask you to put files in a folder called Override: these files will simply be given priority over the original game files and will not erase any of them.

b. Language issues

Most mods are in English only. If your game is in a language other than English, you will have to use DLG/UTI/UTC Language Converter 0.5 to convert the *.dlg, *uti and *utc files contained in the mods in order to be able to view the new dialogues and descriptions. This will not translate the mod but at leat you will be able to use it.

Warning: replacing your original dialog.tlk file by a dialog.tlk contained in a mod will change the language of all the text in your game. Make sure to back up your original file before replacing it. However, mods distributing a custom dialog.tlk file are very rare. Other files are safe to install.

3. Learning to mod:

a. I'm no programmer, how can I even hope to mod something?

Contrary to some common belief, modding KotOR is accessible to everyone and no prior experience is required. Just start checking the tutorials at Holowan Labs to get started and don't hesitate to ask questions. Other modders will be happy to help you get started. Don't be afraid of those n00bish questions: everyone has to start somewhere :)

Of course, if you have never modded anything before, don't start making an intergalactic quest. Start small, such as editing item propertiesto familiarize yourself with the files and the tools and once you are comfortable, move on to something else. Some areas of modding require more specific knowledge but with reasonable efforts and practice pretty much everything is easily accessible.

b. What about modding tools?

First of all, you'll need Fred Tetra's KotOR tool

StarWarsKnights.com also has a huge tools library that is continually updated. As soon as a new utility is released, it is added to the library (with the full consent of the authors).

You can also find more about modding tools, discuss troubleshooting or bring your suggestions at the T3-M4's Astromech Droid Center at LucasForums.

You don't know what you need to make your mod? Check this thread to get started.

Kotor 2 was not designed to run on Windows Vista, and some people have reported serious problems. Many others have managed it though, sometimes with a bit of tweaking.

First of all, make sure you are running Windows Vista with Service Pack 1. Microsoft included some compatibility upgrades in the service pack that should help run KotOR2.
