I've done choices where I've saved the crate and the crewman, however in one playthrough when I went into the cove to save the one guy who'd still be alive, regardless of my choice, he is instead dead.

 

I recently did a test and ran as quickly as I could to him again, and he was still surrounded by traps, but two of the skeleton guys had moved and started attacking him, and he doesn't defend himself. I ended up saving him in that run.

 

Not too sure if it's a bug or not (he just stands there as they hit him).

 

If it's not a bug, then I guess...this becomes a tip?
