Can't make store purchases with gold

Hey everyone, 

 

I'm super new to the game but loving it so far. I've completed a handful of the initial scenario's using the 2 supplied heroes and collected a nice stash of gold. I would like to pick up some additional characters and things from the in-game store but everything (not in real money) has a cost of -1 gold. If I try to purchase, I get an error.

 

I don't see any topics here about this so I assume it's not a real issue and just something simple I'm not getting. Any help? 

 

{UPDATE} Yep, I apparently jus hadn't fully completed the opening storyline so the the store was essentially locked to me. All better now.

  3. Adjust your preference.
