The game is sometimes... forgetful about keeping track of your gold/treasure chests/cards/whatever. Nothing should be lost, but quitting the game and forcing it to log in again is a guaranteed way to get it to re-sync the account. When fixed, please start the timer from the time it is fixed since I received no gold yet for the money I spent. Thanks.
