PoE continuosly crashes in-game

Bellerophon26

Question

Hi,

PoE is crashing to desktop all the time during gameplay. Sometimes it generates a crash report, sometimes it doesn't. I have to restart Windows after the crash, because it messes up with graphics (e.g. in Firefox). I have tried doing things recommended on this forum but with no results. I thought about overheating, but I have recently played a lot of Dragon Age: Inquisition, but no problems there.

Here I attach the output log, most recent crash report and the dxdiag infromation file.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Bellerophon26,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for joining us! What recommended things have your performed? Have you verified your game cache and/or uninstall/reinstall? Do you have EVGA Precision X installed, that application causes crashes with our game.

If its also causing issues with Firefox, then try uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics card driver and see if that works.

Thank you for your support!

Hi,

I have verified the files through Steam (1 file does not check out, but I've read that that's normal), installed the game again and reinstalled graphics card drivers. No EVGA software running. Still crashing at random times.

I am hoping that at least me sending the crash files can help improve the game's stability. Although it's interesting that there are no problems with technologically more advanced games than PoE on my computer.

Hi,

I will take the liberty of joining my crashes into this same thread. I have installed PoE via Steam two days ago and the game keeps crashing. Not crashing into the desktop though, but simply turning the computer off. Besides that, it also sometimes has framerate issues and the sound stutters - when that starts happening, a crash usually follows soon after.

If I have Task Manager on when playing CPU and RAM neither seem to be occupied above 50%. Is there anything I can do, or is my graphics card simply failing me? :(

I have done everything in https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72049-workarounds-for-several-known-issues-4-07-15/ + ensured that all my drivers are up to date. My specs are attached.

Hello Archim,

It looks like that your graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements, which is why you are experiencing those crashes. Sorry!

Thanks!

Hi Aarik,

I've vacuumed my computer properly + changed framerate to 30 (when I moved it from 60 to 45 the computer crashed, so I didn't try moving it to 30, originally) and it works like magic now! I can even change the resolution up and it works fine.

...you shouldn't have lost hope in my computer so fast!

I'm very happy.

Best,

J.

Hello,

two things:

First:

I know is not my job, but, you got windows 64 bits, i read around the web, seems Poe have some problems with the memory access for it (cause the 64 bits OS)

Between...

Im in the same situation (with 32 bits, so seems the problem is the application not the OS), the curious thing is that didn't happen some time ago: after some bugs (about white march) i stop playing, and now, im trying to play again and found this. I feel really bad, cause, actually i was unable to play white march, and I bought it before it was released...

I took a look to the logs, seems the game is trying some memory adress that don't exist:

3583 MB physical memory [761 MB free].
0 MB paging file [2980 MB free].
2048 MB user address space [74 MB free].
Write to location 00800000 caused an access violation.

Please! can I have an answer on this? the game stills unplayable... :(

Thank you in advance!

EDIT: I tried updating video drivers, also, using the beta of POE, but it crashes on start... even worst than before! the same kind of error. Also, checked the web again to get more information and seems that almost everyone is happy with windows10+Poe, seems the issue is not coming from the OS.

Aarik D: Here is my latest output_log.

Hey Bellerophon26,

I'll send your files over to our programmers and see if they can find anything. However that may take some time since we're super busy with getting TWM: Pt 2 ready for release.

Hey judgebeo,

Pillars of Eternity isn't fully supported by 32bit OS, which is why you are experiencing so many crashes. But there is some good news! There is a work around that will allow you to play the game with no crashes (hopefully). You can change your system settings on your computer to increase RAM used by a single application.  However, there are inherent risks involved when changing settings involving your operating system and any attempts to change your system settings will be at your own risk.  Obsidian is not liable for any issues that might occur with those settings.

Hi, i will take a look, i... missunderstood; thought 64 bits were not full supported, not 32... anyway, i did some changes today, one involving the memory managed by the system, the link you post is for windows 7/8, will work on 10? Anyway.. will test and your proposal and give you some feedback.

Sorry for the delay:

I changed the memory management throught another application, and also, reinstalled POE.

Games work fine now, maybe there was a mod that interfiered with new version or maybe the memory management.

Well, I was able to stabilize the game after returning the CPU to its original settings. I had my Phenom II overclocked by 400MHz. When I removed the overclocking, the game stopped crashing. Although it is still interensting that PoE is the only application/game that is continuosly crashing when my oveclocking is on.
