PC DVD (as gift) but no drive! Can I download?

Question

Posted

As the topic title says, I requested this as a Christmas gift and got it, but I didn't think to tell the person who gave it to me that I have no disk drive on my laptop. Is there a way I can download it now that I own the hard copy? Or am I up a creek?

I haven't opened the box yet in case I need to return it.

if it's a copy for Steam than yes, you can download it. This is likely also the case for a GOG copy of the game.

You could always get a external dvd drive, which are generally usb and 10-20 quid. I had to do that when the dvd drive on my laptop broke and it was easier and cheaper than replacing/repairing it.

In case of it being regular commercial copy then you can register your copy to Steam by using key that come with the game. If it is Kickstarter copy of the game then you are on more problematic waters, as it is DRM free version that is not linked to any of the digital stores/distributors, which would mean that you would need somebody to gift you key to digital store version or buy such key by yourself.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Being a Steam copy of the game, I found the key inside the case and am downloading now. I appreciate the responses!
