I can confirm this. The positions are only shown in the fog of war, not in the black void.

Seperate but similar issue, in the White March areas, you can see little areas of mist where there are characters in the fog of war even without targeting those areas with an ability.

You should be able to see this with any group of hostiles in this game.

Take Durance's Interdiction and position the area of effect marker to your south like in the screenshot.
