How do you split a stack?

Like when you have 3 of the same potion and you want to give 1 to another character, can a stack be split?

Thank you. I'm new to the engine, so I was shift-clicking out of habit from other RPGs, which sends things to the stash here.

You can also right-click while holding the item.
