Companion starting level not 1

I'm running version 1.0.5.0567 - steam of poe.

 

Although i have enabled the "choose companion starting level" option the companions i meet for the first time join my group fully leveled. 

I thought they would be level 1 and their points could be distributed by me. Did i miss something here?

Hi there,

 

You will need to turn the Auto Level Companion option off in the Difficulty section of the options menu. This will allow you to level your companions starting from level 1 and reallocate their skill points and spells/abilities yourself.

Thanks. It works now that i disabled the option.

 

The text explaining the "choose companion starting levels" option displayed at the bottom is buggy though (or the wording of the option should be different). It says "If enabled, this option will allow you to manually level up new companions. If disabled, the companions will start using a standard class progression."
