I noticed that Aloth's intelligence is locked at 18 no matter what gear I put on him. I have a +1 Int hat, +2 Int hat and a +1 Int pendant. I've tried them all, but no matter what combination of gear, his intelligence stays the same, and won't go higher than 18. Is this a bug. Is it actually 18, or just a mistake in the character screen, and behind the scenes he gets the benefits? The gear totally works on other people (like Kana, or anyone else), but it seems Aloth gets no benefit from it. Am I missing something? Is this an error from having a saved game that has been carried through the steam patches? Is there a workaround or a reset?

Ability modifiers from the same source/type don't stack.  Wearing three items that all modify the same Attribute will only apply the highest (and suppress the others).

 

You can stack ability modifiers from different sources (i.e. gear, rest, food, etc).

 

It pays to read the loading screens :)

I already understood that, and I had already seen the loading screens, thank you. I noticed after I posted this, that I had Aloth wearing a robe that also had a +2 Int bonus I had forgotten about, so that was it. It was cancelling out additional Int gear. I guess I have found a lot of intelligence gear that I cannot really take advantage of. Will have to wait til I find a +3 modifier.
