version 1.04 from GoG, 64 bit linux (fedora 20)

I started up a new main character (Wood Elf Cipher, currently level 2). When I got to Gilded Vale and talked to Eder, we had a little chat and the dialogue ended without any option to join. Now when I talk to him, he just says something like "Welcome to our lovely village" and I get end dialogue... I tried the other initial conversation option by reloading from a save but got the same result.

I found Aloth and he joined up, wandered the town a bit and got some quests and then returned to Eder, but still get the same response.

Anyone else get this?

You should get some rest. At the inn.

I've come to burn your kingdom down

I had this issue too.  You need to trigger some event before Eder will join, but it's been long enough since I was in Gilded Vale that I don't recall what that event was.

Suen already dropped a pretty big hint.

Eder will give you the option to join at the appropriate time.
