Please help me, its been the best gaming experience I had for years but not being able to play it is such a downer.

Have you tried restarting your computer?  Saw someone else who ran into problems after installing the GOG patch and that fixed things for them.

it;s possible that the patching process has messed up, this has happened with me, as the patching stopped quests from been aded in the quest log. reinstalling the game might be a good idea, as you should get the latest version then. (if on steam)
