On my first playthrough with PoE up to 1.0.6, I always completed that fight, because I was in a hurry and didn't pay attention to the logbook stuff. Heavy armor for all, with everyone's back against the wall and lots of burn damage as one way to fight spectres and shades. However, we keep notes here, and we've noticed Maerwith at the inn as somebody who may be related to some quest. Then in the current playthrough I've been more careful and have had a PER >= 18 main hero, too. Else, there are many fights in the game where kick'n'rush won't work. And sometimes it may be necessary to return later. Exactly as in Baldur's Gate 2.
