Are save files universal or are they locked into an OS? I'd like to be able to keep a save between my desktop and Macbook

Good question, but you could always run windows on your macbook to make sure.

This would be awesome to know, so that I don't start a game on my laptop that I can't pick up later.

I'm not seeing my save file I started on my Macbook when I launch the game in Windows. Looks like saves are locked into the OS unless Steam Cloud is just being screwy
