cornishr
I can't remember when Twin Elms was first confirmed to be Big City #2 but it was later last year sometime. It's mentioned here in Update 68 and Update 70 anyway. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/64667-update-68-art/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/64964-update-70-new-year-project-update/ Twin Elms will be four maps large. Defiance Bay is 5 maps large. Is that fact, or speculation? If it's a fact, it's disappointing. Not what i'd classify as really huge, simply a big village or small town.

Athkatla is 8.5 maps (city gates doesn't really count) on the surface alone. Add to that the temple sewers level 1, temple sewers level 2, slums sewers, beholder lair 1, beholder lair 2, graveyard crypts, planar sphere 1, planar sphere 2, circus tent, Châteaux Irenicus as well as numerous lerge buildings with insides and you have something that is at least twice the size of a 5 map Defiance Bay. I'd hope that these cities also include these additional maps. Edited June 11, 2014 by Kore

Mor
Just to be clear, its fact that those are the two major cities or do you have a refernce for Indeed. Athkatla is 8.5 maps (city gates doesn't really count) on the surface alone.Don't let them fool you size matters I am not sure where Sensuki got the four/five maps large info, but we do know that those are the two big cities, and that Defiance Bay has at least 4 districts, but going by that map there might be as many as 6? regardless, I haven't seen any size/content comparisons, so 4/5 maps can offer more then your 8.5 ( although it possible that they decided to scale down the main city quest hub spreading it out, due to some complains about BG2)
Sensuki
In contrast to that, Twin Elms is the second big city. It’s somewhat smaller, but still pretty big http://www.pcgamer.com/au/2014/04/18/pillars-of-eternity-interview-josh-sawyer-on-world-building-magic-psychic-warriors-and-more/ I remember reading this. I'm pretty sure it was confirmed by Josh that it was four maps somewhere, I can't find a quote though. Defiance Bay has five districts as per the world map mockup. We have the names for four of them too: First Fires, Ondra's Gift, Brackenbury District, Heratige Hill. Edited June 11, 2014 by Sensuki
Lephys
It wouldn't be too infeasible to imagine older buildings ending up above newer ones in a treetop city, if Twin Elms is going to be anything like Suldanessellar. O_O... I didn't even think of that! 8D! "We built some stuff here, but now these trees are about 700 feet taller... it's not safe to enter those ruins." They're all precariously held together via growing branches/vines, etc. EXCITE I has! 1 Should we not start with some Ipelagos, or at least some Greater Ipelagos, before tackling a named Arch Ipelago? 6_u

I can understand the disappointment. I was expecting a city like Baldur's Gate or Athkatla in size. In fact, the cities in those games were referred to as big cities in the KS and the 3.5mil stretch goal was going to be a Big Big City 2. It appears the Big Big City 2 is about half the size of Baldurs Gate and Athkatla. Lets hope the size scope matters.
